Speaking of a turn...

AG Bill Barr 'is considering quitting before Trump leaves office' because he is 'furious over president's bullying' after he said DOJ found no widespread election fraud

  • Attorney General William Barr is considering stepping down before President Trump's term ends in January
  • Barr may hand in his resignation before the end of the year, The New York Times reported on Sunday night
  • Barr has generally backed Trump throughout his tenure but said last week that the Justice Department had not found any evidence of widespread voter fraud
  • Barr said the Justice Department has 'not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election'
  • Source told the Times that the attorney general's decision was not affected by Trump and that he had begun considering his departure a week before
  • Last week, a reporter asked Trump if he still had confidence in Barr, to which Trump replied, 'Ask me that in a number of weeks from now'

Quit? Stay so Biden can FIRE your ***.

Seems like you preferred policy prescription also relies on the police deciding to do right by the minority communities they serve
This is the blind spot I have a problem with. I agree with the goals he wants to reach, but what osh kosh bosh osh kosh bosh doesn't realize is that police unions, police chiefs, and many other influential decision makers within the ranks of police scoff at the idea of having a diverse (skill wise) police body. They call pulling over people with a broken light "policing 101." This is why giving them more money, right now, is not going to result in the changes that he wants to see.

Let's restructure how law enforcement is done first; let's purge the force of its bad actors, abusive policies, and detrimental culture; then, we can talk about how much money they need.

I'm on Twitter reading through tweets about this "viral" video of a mall Santa politely telling a kid he wouldn't give him a nerf gun for Christmas because he doesn't give guns, and radical right republicans are losing their ****in mind. The "**** your feelings" crowd upset that a fake character parents lie to their kids about wouldn't give their kid a toy gun? Bunch of softies

by all means don't ask the police to spend their money more wisely, they can barely survive as it is :rolleyes

HPD spent millions in COVID-19 aid on four-wheelers, trucks and trailers

"Altogether, the city awarded the Honolulu Police Department $43 million in federal COVID-19 aid. But records show less than $2 million of that was put towards personal protective equipment for officers. Another $2 million went to sanitation supplies, including hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes.

Meanwhile, the agency spent at least $16.5 million on overtime and other payroll expenses. That accounts for the largest spending category of the COVID-19 aid that went to the department."

You american idiots! Just give them MORE MONEY!

I agree.

But Doing this costs money.

Even if you disagree with my prescription.

My point is defund the police doesn't make sense because restructuring a department costs money.

You'd have to train and hire a bunch of new people (which costs money), and firing a bunch of people wouldn't be easy you'd either have to find a way to crush the union or pay them off with higher pay one Xchange for decreased job security. Still hiring and training their replacements would cost money.

the need for "better policing" necessitated body cameras so we could watch how officers interacted. they kicked and screamed the whole way and still end up turning off their body cameras. I'm not sure why we should give them more money.

I didn't say just "give them more money."

If you think getting them more body cameras is hard, how hard do you think they will fight defunding?

1. The vast majority of the budget is salaries and pensions.

2. I didn't say just give them more money.

Again it's easy to rebut claims that I did not make.

But I understand it's much easier to resort to attacking strawmem when you can't face up to the fundamental truth;

Defunding the police does not make any sense.

Y’all been debating semantics for about a month. Has anything productive come of this back and forth.

It’s common sense that it will cost money to restructure.Police departments complain about how much they have to be responsible for but don’t really want to discuss restructuring because they know ultimately that the discussion will lead to less funding provided to police departments.

And while police unions muddle the conversation to avoid any restructuring, regular people like y’all who basically agree that policing needs restructuring to lead to more efficient work and less excessive spend time debating how disingenuous parties will take the messaging.

Just so much time wasted chasing our tails and getting nowhere focusing on everything BUT the issue.
