OFFICIAL STOCK MARKET AND ECONOMY THREAD VOL. A NEW CHAPTER

@thefuncooker Robinhood is cool if you are starting out but long term, you should use a different broker because Robinhood sells your orderflow. By giving free commission, they have to make money by selling your order flow to HFT/Algo firms.

i mainly use fidelity. i was just trying it out. mainly to trade in and out vxx and tvix the last few weeks to hedge the rest of my crap. my time horizon is usually a lot longer than everyone else on this board probably is.  From what i remember, they raised enough cash so they don't have to make money right away and don't even have enough volume to sell order flow to the exchanges. They don't have any costs besides running the app and the employees and will make some money off the float just like all brokers do. even if they are, i don't really care if theyre selling my order flow.  pennies or fractions of pennies arent going to make a much of a difference unless you're like calpers or something.

grabbed a 3 lot of April 20 USO calls for .82. got in lil early, but whatever. i'm not adding. gonna just let these ride till expiration.

CTRL is just stomping on my balls :{ i have till july so plenty of time and they can work but man this is annoying.

AMZN broke below value for the month this morning (296.24). could maybe use today's low as a stop if you like this name and wanna try for a reversal.

took my CLF calls off at .51 from .43 entry, made like 55 bucks. didn't like the play enough to stay with it.

That's what I was thinking. Not sure what's causing this downtrend, but I'd like to think they're poised for a reversal. I set my buy at $290, still hasn't gone through :{.

EDIT:

They're also reporting earnings at the end of this month. Gotta do some research.

Feels good to be back boys. Made some change on AGEN short. I got a little complacent and missed the first opportunity to cover my early starter short near 6. Only traded one symbol.. less is better

Welcome back. Can't believe you left JRS to hold the fort here on his own :{

Been so lonely :{

I'm glad I took profits on INVN. Was a little early, missed like 80 cents or so before it topped out, but I got decent meat on that move. Not really interested in getting back in. Someone told me they were under investigation but didn't divulge any other information so idk how accurate that is.

/ES might be putting in a right shoulder. We'll see if it happens.

Oil below that trend-lime a little (around 46). Prob gonna chop around there. My USO calls are around 66 cents now from .82 entry. I'm fine with $250 worth of risk on the table till April, so ill stay put there and see what happens. Could keep dumping who knows man.

That LULU I bought a few months ago :hat Also making moves w UNFI.

Finally got a small position in Amazon too, although I might be a few quarters early.

Question for you guys.

In my brief time trading, I have learned that holding a short-term position through earnings can prove to be devastating. Should I treat a conference presentation in the same manner? I hold a position that is currently $$..but the company presents on Thursday.

nobody goes broke taking profits. i don't know the company or presentation so i can't assist you. sometimes it'll move higher, sometimes the move will be muted, sometimes they'll sell the news. if anything, take off at least half.

I added another USO call at .62. will add 1 more under .50 and I'm finished. don't wanna own more than 5.

Nice, I honestly don't know enough about biotechs so Idk what they'll be reporting and how it'll be received. I do know it broke above value for the month earlier which was about 18.13, which is a good sign. Could maybe take some off to reduce your risk and leave a small runner on if you like this company a lot. Chart looks decent, but Idk anything about it fundamentally so yeah, Idk :lol

You guys that got into AMZN on the dip, nice job. Caught a break with that upgrade, stock now back in value for the month. Point of control is about 307. Hopefully it rotates back there for you guys. I'd probably raise my stop to 296.24 (bottom of value for the month) just to lock in gains in case the overall market gets sloppy.

Monster put buyer in INVN for Feb 15s for 2 bucks. I might try and get a 14-13 put spread for .30 but doubtful I get filled. Prob gonna just avoid this name completely.

Paper buying more AMD puts, 1/30 and 2/20 2.5 puts. I'd stay away from this one.

BABA :( I wanted to get short on the break into value for the day with some 101 puts but didn't :{ almost a triple there. Oh well, gotta pull the trigger.

GPRO broke below value for the month yesterday, has sold off 8 bucks from that point now, would've been an absolute blowout winner. Still working my way into using value areas, gotta pull the trigger and start nailing this stuff now.

AAPL keeps rejecting the point of control for the month 112.76, did it on Friday and today. broke below the bottom of value for the month now 109.50, would like to see it get back above there and hold.

oil nice rally off the lows today :hat hopefully it continues. kind of wish i bought 1 more call at .60 but so be it.

TSLA slap

broke below value for the year this could get ugly. 150 could be in the books if it doesn't reverse.

I wouldn't trade biotechs on technicals because they usually gap up or down a lot on news, expected and unexpected. You're better off buying one of the etfs or closed end funds unless you don't care if you wake up and your biotech stock is cut in half or more. If you want single stocks why not follow some specialists like baker brothers, point72 or baupost when they have huge positions?

or you could just buy options on the biotech company and have a defined risk ;)

that's how i play biotech stocks when i do. i usually ignore the ones without options, which sometimes i miss out on nice moves, but at least i don't have to worry about gap downs and losing more than i was willing to lose.
