- Whoever does the quickest amount of "B" button tapping will be victorious.
oh god please no this. this will just lead to broken controllers and sprained thumbs.
why couldnt they just do a combo system where each player has to hit a specified key combo that increases in speed and difficulty the longer the battle goeson?
ex.
1. X Y A B B
2. Y Y B B A
3. X A B B Y
etc.
that would be more skill oriented and not so much button mashing.

Yes, it's true, and you can read the full news story here, but Team Ninja leader, Tomonobu Itagaki is indeed bolting from his famed development team, on the eve of Ninja Gaiden II's release, and heading off for greener pastures. For the sake of expediency, I'm posting his full statement here, unedited, in all of its unexpected glory.
"I, Tomonobu Itagaki, hereby announce that on the 14th of May 2008 I filed a complaint in the Tokyo District Court against Tecmo Co., Ltd. for unpaid completion bonuses, and against the President of Tecmo, Yoshimi Yasuda, for such unlawful acts as unreasonable and disingenuous statements made towards me, claiming damages in total of 148 million yen. I also announce that this complaint was delivered to the defendants on May 22nd of the same year.
In addition, I hereby announce that I have today submitted a letter of resignation to Tecmo Co., Ltd. stating that I will resign as of the 1st of July, 2008.
Before the start of development on DEAD OR ALIVE 4, Tecmo Co., Ltd. had agreed to pay a completion bonus to me for this Xbox 360 title, which I produced. However, when the time came for the actual payment, Tecmo Co., Ltd. went against its previous agreement and refused payment. President Yoshimi Yasuda chose not only to violate this agreement, but also turned defiant, telling me ?if you are dissatisfied with the decision not to pay the bonuses, either quit the company or sue it.? In addition, he made demeaning remarks about me to my subordinates and colleagues, causing me significant emotional distress and worsening my personal relationships and work environment. Thus, I have no choice but to resign from Tecmo Co., Ltd.
The conduct of Tecmo Co., Ltd. and its president Yoshimi Yasuda towards me has been unbefitting of a publicly-listed company.
I have filed this lawsuit with a strong intent to question the social responsibility of Tecmo Co., Ltd. and its President Yoshimi Yasuda, as well as condemning them for their unjust acts. Today, in addition to announcing the reasons for this lawsuit, I make clear my reasons for resigning.
To All Game Fans,
I truly feel sorry to all the fans of the games I have made. NINJA GAIDEN 2, which will launch on the 3rd of June will be the last NINJA GAIDEN I will create. I will also never be able to make DEAD OR ALIVE 5. I regret the circumstances that have forced me to leave Tecmo, where I had worked for so many years, and I regret the disappointment this will cause my fans.
However, I can no longer continue to work with President Yoshimi Yasuda, a man who chooses not to honor promises even when he is able to do so.
I truly hope that nothing like this happens again in the future.
Tecmo Co., Ltd. Creative Officer
Leader, Team NINJA
Tomonobu Itagaki"
Make of this what you will, and speculate all you want on Itagaki's next move, but what will happen to Tecmo now that its core creative force is walking out of the door on July 1st? The smart money is that Tecmo president (Yasuda) orders up the instant revival of Dead or Alive (via ports), Ninja Gaiden II (ports), and deposits at least some of those funds into the perpetual money-pit known as Bastard Online. With Tecmo's greatest money-maker shaking it loose as of July 1st, the company's financial hopes rests on upcoming titles like Fatal Frame Wii and, uh, Monster Rancher? Whatever you think of Itagaki and Team Ninja, this is most definitely a dark day for Tecmo.
Guitar Hero: Metallica Confirmed
by Aaron Linde Jun 02, 2008 3:48pm CST tags: Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero
Details in an Activision SEC filing uncovered by GameSpot has confirmed the existence of a new Guitar Hero title focused on the long-running heavy metal act Metallica in Guitar Hero: Metallica, scheduled for release in early 2009.
"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in the filing.
Activision's 2009 fiscal year ends on March 31 of next year, pinning the previously unannounced Guitar Hero: Metallica for a release prior to that time. The multiple-instrument update to the series, Guitar Hero IV, is expected this fall, making a release in the 2008 calendar year unlikely for Guitar Hero: Metallica.
No platforms were divulged in the filing, though Activision's other band-centric offshoot Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is slated to appear on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Wii.
Thanks to Masem for the heads up.
Netflix FTW!
Netflix has partnered with Microsoft, says Wedbush Morgan
Wedbush Morgan Securities has speculated about a possible Netflix deal to stream movies through Xbox 360 consoles.
The conclusion, made by the investment banking firm, came off the back of comments made by Netflix management. If true it would allow the online rental service to stream movies directly into consumer's consoles.
"As we have speculated in the past, we believe that one of Netflix's partners is Microsoft. We arrive at this conclusion based upon Netflix management repeatedly mentioning 'Internet enabled video game consoles'," said a Wedbush Morgan statement.
"While there are three such consoles, only one - Microsoft's Xbox 360 - has a sufficiently large installed base to make sense from a streaming partnership with Netflix."
"The competitive advantage of such an alliance is clear: Netflix customers who are Xbox Live members will have the ability to stream online content through their Xbox 360s directly to their televisions. The ability to do so is available without the Xbox 360, but requires a measure of technological sophistication and a high tolerance for failure," it added.
Earlier this year, Netflix had surveyed subscribers on the possibility of streaming movies via the Xbox 360 console.
"While there are three such consoles, only one - Microsoft's Xbox 360 - has a sufficiently large installed base to make sense from a streaming partnership with Netflix."
