Family Matters or Full House.

Recent viewing. Wasn’t my cup of tea. Film lacked flow and interesting characters. Jack Nicholson’s character was just not likeable. Not his fault though. Hard to root for him when his behavior kept giving you reasons not to. 2.5/8

NGL, ion think ol' Jack is that great.

21 Bridges last night.

Suuuuuper meh. Was rough seeing Chadwick, obviously, but that might have been the most predictable cop movie I've ever seen in my life. The only reason I would ever tell anyone that they absolutely have to see it his for Chadwick reasons.
5.5/8

Locked in for Northman tonight :smokin

Robert Eggers the next GOAT
Read this and said “if I know of Eggers it hasn’t stuck because who tf is Eggers.
IMDB
OKAY I see he has made 3 films.
Keep reading the thread.
The Northman.

Wow. Just wow.

My friend and I just sat in silence during the credits and he looked like he went through some surreal sort of experience

8/8
Saw this and went to PPV looking to see where it’s playing. Didn’t find it.
Kept reading thread.
Seriously, if I'm a director and I was going to make a viking movie I just wouldn't after watching that. You're not going to top that.

Eggers just puts so much research and work into his films and his love for his work really shows. I can't imagine he will ever make a bad movie. The execution of the mythology+rituals+action scenes+drama was just perfect.

Some of those scenes were just so damn powerful.
Read this and said “dude said you can’t top that”
Thought to myself “damn, has he seen Vikings/Lost Kingdom? Probably and he said this….
Found the Trailer and watched it….
Watched a second trailer where God Defoe talks about seeing The Witch back when and immediately he called Eggers and told him that he wanted to work with him, then they did the Lighthouse. Thinks back to Defoes feeling of the Witch…”say to myself damn I need to check that out later, I’m getting ready to try and Pirate The Northman.
Couldn’t find it.
Kept reading thread.

Y’all got me hype for Northman.
When I watched the witch that ish had me shook
Read this and looked longer for a Pirated Northman.
Couldnt find it.
Said **** it, I’m watching The Witch.
Then The Light House.

Anyone seen the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent last night or tonight?

Here’s the general premise, without giving anything away:

This is all done tongue-in-cheek: Nic Cage plays Nic Cage, who’s kind of having “a hard time getting back in the business”, he ends up taking a gig for a super, super rich guy to go that guy’s birthday party for a week.

Just got home from The Northman.......

Visually great.

Buuuuuuuuutttttttt.........while certainly Oscar bait, it's not my genre. Witchcraft and howling by a fire not really me.

I have to do this. Speak to text cuz I feel so strongly about it. I posted no lesson like three times about how great this movie is. It's incredible. It's so funny it's met a it's like not a spoof of certain genres. But it's also oddly I don't know. It's funny it's tense. It's weird I've had two classes of bourbon. It's an amazing movie like I might go receive it this weekend. I love this movie! Ignore the! Stop doing! No. Don't do an! I want to say the word! This is chaos

I love The Lighthouse but it might be the least accessible movie ever

Fair stance. I'm all for that weird **** and nerd out on mythology and ritualistic **** in film, especially with the research it took to put it on screen and I'm an Eggers stan so I'm biased. I feel like I hyped it up too much now

Wait, Northman... witchcraft? So it's not real? I thought it was real. :(

It's based off Nordic mythology, there's a few supernatural scenes but at it's core it's a tale of revenge. Shakespeare wrote Hamlet based off this story. But everything they do is historically accurate and has parallels to what they believed in.
It's Eggers most accessible film but there are a lot of "what the ****" moments.

Also Nicole Kidman, KILLED her big scene.

The berserker raid scene is all time.

Oooooh, Kidman? Did not know she's in it. Love her.

All I've seen of Taylor-Joy is Queen's Gambit, but I thought she CRUSHED that.

I've heard nothing but good things so I'm definitely watching it as soon as I can. Just didn't know that it has a supernatural element to it, but it helps knowing that going in.

You made a good point I forgot to mention. I felt the research aspect to it. I personally don't know how accurate, but it LOOKED authentic, if that makes sense.
I totally see it as Oscar bait for Costume design and Cinematography etc. Kidman was solid, agreed. Dafoe was creepy AF too. :lol

Don’t know if it’s fair to call it Oscar bait but I see where you’re coming from. I wouldn’t say it’s like how Revenant was.
Eggers tackles the primality of man in his movies and tends to strip it down to its core while blending symbolism and lore and I’m all for it.
For what it’s worth this isn’t the final product he wanted and he had to meet the studio halfway to make the movie. Which makes me want to see a Director’s Cut ASAP because it will be infinitely weirder
Still bugs me out that the dude that made Lighthouse got a $90 mil budget movie after

I'm gonna try to catch The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent if it isn't too packed in the theatres this weekend.
