Michael Mann on Tom Cruise in Collateral vs. Keanu Reeves in John Wick:

No need to denounce Keanu's training to play up Tom's. And the end of the day it's entertainment.

I get the sentiment cuz what Tom is doing is the closest thing to the real thing.

What Keanu did with those guys was pretend. That’s the entire art of action choreography and stuntmen.

Wish Mann had this same energy with Tokyo Vice. Dude did the pilot and dipped. Whole episode (which I enjoyed) is a completely different vibe with the rest of the season. Had his name all over the promotion yet did 1 ep :{

agree. loved the first episode of Tokyo Vice with him directing it. then went out and the series started to decline.

Definitely respect Tom for what he puts on the line. Just didn't think it was necessary to throw shade on someone that obviously worked hard.
same. I respect Michael Mann because he's a great director. but throwing shades like that is somehow below his caliber. although there is partial truth to what he is saying, he didn't need to do that just to boost Tom and undermine Keanu. Keanu did a lot of work to get to that physical level. it would have been better explained if he would just have said, in the world of fictional action, this and that. but giving a vague generalization could ruff some feathers.

Lol what did I miss?

What movie?
Nothing wrong with Jamie, just big enough to know he can get multiple bags ie a Netflix deal, especially during the pandemic.

Past couple years he's had blockbusters and award nominated properties:

Spider-Man: No Way Home
Soul
Just Mercy

Awesome to prop Cruise for that work, but zero need to come down on what Keanu has done with John Wick.

I decided to start a mission impossible watch on this quarantine. I’m on MI2 and why can’t I remember that Anthony Hopkins was in this one?!! Like not at ALL. Guess I only recall the weird action scenes.

Anyways, it’s considered the worst one, but how does it stack up against action movies in general? Would it still suck if it wasn’t a MI movie? Don’t think I’ve seen this since 2001 so I have no clue.

It's John Woo era. Not long after Face Off, and, well.....the jokes could write themselves there. :lol

Hopkins has my favorite line.

"You're saying that it will be difficult?"

"Very."

"Well, this isn't Mission Difficult Mr Hunt, it's Mission Impossible. Difficult should be a walk in the park for you."

:lol

I just watched it last week and it was fine, imo. But of the 6 films, if there has to be a "worst" I'm fine with choosing that one. But it being the worst is better than most franchises worst films, speaks highly of the franchise, if that makes sense.

It had big implications however. Want one? This movie went long, causing Dougray Scott to drop out of his next film. Some role called, Wolverine, that went to Hugh Jackman instead.
More? Metallica wrote the theme for the movie. It's leaking online, led to their suit over Napster.

And more importantly, the og edit was 3.5 hours long. Woo went a lil too far. So Cruise took over the edit and it explains some of the gaps in the story a lil bit.

Supposedly it had a lot of studio interference and tbh it kinda shows.

It's not a terrible movie but it's very disappointing in the context in that it was signaling of John Woo leaving his prime.

Its not just the worst MI movies its one of Woo's worst ones.

If it didn't have that title with the Cruise momentum of it being a sequel I think its just another 90s blockbuster that doesn't do as well.

problem with MI2 was Woo trying to incorporate HK style action into a established Western style spy action movie. ridiculous stunts and gimmicks that may look cool to certain audience but doesn't make any sense. furthermore, the backstory suffered a lot in place of the stunts that were overused. just imagine Agent Ethan Hunt doing Kung-Fu. and besides, the strength of the MI series revolves around a team of specialists. guess John Woo confused James Bond with Mission Impossible.

started peaky blinders season 6 today. i could barely recall season 5 and feel like season 3 and 5 were pretty weak overall iirc. season 6 off to a good start tho

I love movies, man.

I’ve seen Almost Famous in it’s entirety a good 10 times and it is only today - this viewing - that I noticed Rainn Wilson is in it.

So.......never seen it.

I have it on my DVR and just haven't yet pulled the trigger.

Just watched 40 Year Old Virgin for the 50th time and now watchin Boomerang for the 10th time tho. :lol

I will get to it soon. I been meaning to.
