Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Jettisoned It Follows and went to The Black Phone with friends…

Interesting connection between the main son and the main daughter and the mom, that’ll never be brought to the forefront.

Ethan Hawke is as much of a mystery to the audience as he is to the community… he’s on screen when he needs to be.

6/8
I also saw it last night and would give it a 5.5/8. Enjoyed it but would like to have seen them explore the connection between the daughter and Mom more. I get the Dad was probably going through some things and took it out on the kids due to him turning to booze but they never really tell you what happened to the Mom you kind of just have to make your own conclusions.

Hawke was used well and I like movie like this where they keep the killer a mystery of sorts.

Also, I wasn't a huge fan of the main kid though, so he just learns to fight from one lesson from his friend?!? His arm was mint though hahahaha.

Beavis & Butthead Do the Universe - 4.5/8

I get that this is a springboard into the reboot, but it was pretty meh tbh. Imo, this would have been better off as three episodes of the show; two average and one good (a 20 minute ep of B&B finding out they have white privilege would be gold  )

Part of me wonders if the new iteration should have younger writers, with Mike Judge acting in more of an executive role. Some of the scenarios seemed a little out of touch. Or maybe they are going for the middle-aged audience that grew up with the show? Possible

When I inserted this into Letterboxd, I saw a few B&B holiday specials  I'll have to check those out

That whole Killer Mike convo in episode 8 of Ozark was really cringey sheesh. Whole Illmatic element of the ep was very tryhard-ish. Don't mind the idea but the execution was rough.
Yo when I saw the clip before the season I was fine with it but in context it was so pointless

The passing convo they had meant nothing.

Also I don't know how they do that ep and don't play One Love.

Yup never knew this

Killer cast but that trailer is awful. Doesn’t look interesting at all. Folks just be adding quirky music to a movie trailer now and expecting you to watch it because it has Wes Anderson vibes?

I’m watching this 100 % though :lol

Saoirse getting to use any accent other than American is 🔥🔥🔥

Unanswered question by The Ringer’s Rewatchables Podcast ABOUT 2012’s Project X:

10 years since the movie, would today’s Ring cameras ruin any potential of a party like that from going anywhere near that far? “Oh someone tripped the motion sensor in the family room that notified the parents’ phones of movement in the family room?!”

With today's tech and people also posting stories, checking in, etc on socials it would be harder to pull off today. Seems like in early 2010s stuff was out there but nowhere near the utilization of later in the decade.

Right in 2010/11 Twitter was basically just conversing with friends or people at your school publicly, and then commenting on the Heat choke really was just the beginning, there was no real Live platform outside of Skype, Rings were like five years away.

One of the GOAT 80’s teen flicks IMO

Of all the Great 80’s teen slash coming of age slash hero films, this one escaped my eyes until about 1year ago.
I never care for Eric Stolz before that film.
Mary Stuart Masterson is charming and witty, impossible not to like. That character she played was Iconic.

Saw the Elvis movie. Huge Elvis fan. Grew up on him because of my father. Anyways, anytime before I start watching anything made about Elvis, I always expect less because he's a difficult person to portray. Hard to get an actor that looks like him and the project just ends up being just meh. Like when that Jonathan Myers guy played Elvis. I thought he was horrible. Anyways Austin Butler in certain angles looks more like Elvis but he doesnt really look like him if that makes sense. He pulled off the 50's Elvis more than he did the 70's Elvis look wise. But his acting was PHENOMENAL. He did a tremendous job. I enjoyed the movie so much. So did my father, who did get a little teary eyed when they showed the actual clip of him singing Unchained Melody during his last TV Special. He said to me, the special came on after his death and if it would have aired before, he would have said this guy is about to die. Damn shame what he did to himself.

Back to the movie. The one thing I did not like is how the story was told from the Col.'s point of view. I could have done without so much Tom Hanks. The accent was weird and not needed because the Col did not have one like that. The movie embellished certain situations (like all biopics do) but for the most part it was spot on. Very glitz and glamoury but reading reviews, that is what Baz does with his movies (havent seen any of his other films).

Now next movie to watch will be Top Gun. :)

well it wasn't the best moment but I guess they have to give back to Tom what Elvis stole from him decades before that. Elvis owes him a lot.
