you're really goin the wrong way on this one Ska.

I can't believe I'm having to convince someone to see Pulp Fiction.
laugh.gif
What is the world coming too?

The Dialogue in this movie could possibly be the best in cinema history.  (Samuel especially)

I agree with you that there are those that back QT just because it's cool to do so.  Agreed.  But this ain't the picture they're talkin about.  This movie got EVERYBODY hooked onto it.  And then AFTER that, everyone went "cool" to like Quentin.  Know what I'm sayin?  It was because of this movie that people started doing that.

Did you just say you doubt it's a good story?
sick.gif
I hope you were speakin about something else.
laugh.gif
Story will not be a problem with this film.  And as far as Inspirational, all the Quentin clones = inspirational.  They were inspired.

Prime has the movie stub in his wallet 17 years later man, this is a guy that has seen 500 movies or so in the theatre since I've known him.  (10-12 years)  That's the only ticket in his wallet.  Trust, he ain't foolin.  He's the one I was referring too either logging off for good, or getting himself banned.

Ska, serious, if you get 2 hours away from work, please, sit down and do this.  I expect a full report in here when you're done, you won't need to use spoilers as you are the only one left that hasn't seen the film.  So you may speak freely.  No need to apologize, we will forgive you, maybe just allow us all a free warning sometime if you catch us slippin elsewhere.

Edit
I liked Dogs, loved it really, but Fiction is his Mona Lisa.  No doubt about it.  I love Jackie Brown, love Kill Bill, love Grindhouse, Inglorious, Four Rooms, even the movies he's acted in, but Pulp is stand alone.  The others are good, great even, but they don't even get CLOSE to what Pulp was.

Reservoir Dogs is Quentin Tarantino's best film.... I can't believe someone used "ehhh" as a way to describe it
30t6p3b.gif

Still want to see The Adjustment Bureau, Unknown, Battle: Los Angeles, and Hall Pass.... all movies that haven't killed it with the film critics by any means but have peaked my interest in one way or another.

We should have a movie draft from every decade 1980s/1990s/2000s... just like a fantasy football draft, 10 people, etc. So for example, if Nowitness, CP, or whoever had the #1 pick, they would pick what they think is the best movie from the 1990s (could be Goodfellas, could be Forrest Gump, whatever). And then it would be like a snake draft or whatever. Anybody have any interest in doing that?

What makes Pulp Fiction one of my favorites is the dialogue and humor. The little jokes, conversations, nuances, etc. all combine to make it a funny film in it's way. Tarantino's greatest ability is probably in his characters and how he can craft a unique personality and story in a small about of screen time. Then the stories were tremendous as well. Even if the actual content (violent gangsters doing gangster things) doesn't interest you, the quality of the filmmaking and acting should at least keep your attention.

Unfortunately, even if you do end up watching it, all of the hype and people telling you it's the greatest movie of all-time, will probably sour the experience and it won't live up to your expectations. Having said that, if you can try to have an open mind then who knows.... at least you'll know for a fact you don't like it
laugh.gif

It was brought up earlier by KLJ, but Adaptation is terrific, and definitely Cage's best role other than Leaving Las Vegas but a great film anyway. It's especially good for movie buffs who have an interest in the behind the screens aspect of filmmaking, it's a really unique experience.

Do you guys realize how little you have actually said about this movie in the course of all these replies?
laugh.gif

*edit* Big J gets where I'm coming from.
laugh.gif
Dear god, in all the discussions I've had about this damn movie, that's the most I've learned about the movie other than just reading the back of the DVD case.
roll.gif

But yeah, the rest of you, go look for yourself. All you've all basically said is the same thing everyone says:

"You have to see it!"

"It's a great movie!"

"It's Tarantino at his finest!"

"So many quotes!" Name some. I can dig a good quote. 'You were the chosen one!' 'Do you feel lucky, punk?' 'Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.' 'How ya like them apples?'

But the vague responses of disbelief and shock aren't very convincing. And this dialogue is typical of what happens whenever I mention to a group that I haven't seen this freaking movie: buncha popped eyebrows followed by descriptions of nothing and questions from me left on the table, touched by no one.
laugh.gif

So it's a good story, enh? What's it even about? All I know is Travolta and Samuel L. are badasses. And there's drugs. And fighting. Well whoop-dee-GD-do.
laugh.gif

And when I say 'inspirational', I don't mean 'It inspired people to be Tarantino clones.' Dear god, I hope no one walked away from The Game wanting to be copy Michael Douglas, and that their life may have been moved to be less of a jerk and more appreciative of people. If someone saw The Rainmaker and Good Will Hunting and thought 'I need to be like that Damon guy!', I'd have no reservations telling them 'Yeah, you missed the point.'
laugh.gif

Nowitness41Dirk:

eek.gif

Oh, Inglourious Basterds is Tarantino? Because THAT... is a quality film. Absolutely love it.

Jackie Brown? Kill Bill? Not even remotely intrigued or interested. I've seen pieces of Kill Bill and could tell it's not my thing.

I like the idea of a decades draft.

If you can find the 10 needed, I'm sure we could put something together.

I just pulled aside some co-workers and told them I had someone who was unwilling to watch Pulp, they all looked at me like

you probably get vague responses because nobody wants to ruin specific scenes for you. Reading Chritopher Walken's monologue isn't the same as watching it.

So it's the greatest movie ever... and maybe 1 out of 10 people can explain why.

See what I mean?

People can save ticket stubs to this ONE MOVIE, but can't answer the question 'What makes it life changing?' Either that's too hard of a question, or...

... people just like it is because they're supposed to, because they know they have to.

Pick any of the movies I've listed among my favorites, and I will have NO PROBLEM explaining exactly why I love that movie, and not one word/line will be as vague or non-desscript as "You just have to see it to get it" or "It's jut AWESOME!"

the dialogue, acting, and structure of the film (how he used time) are all very good

what else can someone say?

This is EXACTLY what happened in 2008 with Scarface,, which I eventually saw in 2009, like I said earlier. The responses in here (other than yours) are so vague and cliche that we could go back and substitute 'Scarface' for 'Pupl Fiction' in the last 15 (or so) replies, and the dialogue would be an exact replica of what happened with me and my old coworkers in 2008.
laugh.gif

"What? Go watch Pulp Fiction Scarface, now!"

"You haven't seen Pulp Fiction Scarface? Crazy! You have to."

"Pulp Fiction Scarface might be the greatest movie ever, dude! How can you... wow... never?!"

"I can't believe we're having to convince someone to watch Pulp Fiction Scarface."

"What's it about? WHAT'S IT ABOUT?! It's freaking Samuel L Al Pacino! That's what it's about!"

"Dude, that's why people say 'I'ma get midevil on your @#$' 'Say hello to mah lil friend!', but you don't get that because you haven't seen it."

In the end, I walk away like "Oh. Sounds... sounds riveting.
ohwell.gif
Can't believe I've missed out."

If the movie only serves to evoke responses like that, I continue to question it's quality. Sorry.
