Felt too artistic and it was really attempting to be something it wasn't. Kept waiting for them to explain WHY Gosling was not the slightest bit outgoing, why he was like he was, but they never explained that, at all. The beginning was awesome, but it was all down hill from there. Thought Mulligan was a %++!% when her response to him saying "I was about to call the cops" was "I wish you had". %%#@ you, your husband just got out of prison and from all signs was a outstanding guy. Blah.

I hate looking at Ron Perlman.

I wouldn't say I hate looking at him, but there definitely is something strange looking about Perlman.  Its only when he's Hellboy that I don't really notice it.

But I still dont agree about Mulligan. I think you were expecting too much out of a role player. It's like expecting Jason Terry to take over a game. We know he can, and sometimes he does, but he's not the one whose supposed to in his role. That's Dirk, aka the Driver, who's the main draw to the movie and the one we're supposed to be caring for as an audience. We're also supposed to care about Irene, but not to the same extent. Know what I mean? And I dont know how you didnt feel she was ever in danger; the mob had a man waiting for her in an elevator. If Gosling wasn't there, she's dead. That's when Gosling decided to take things into his own hands and speed up the process of ending the war and going after Pearlman/Brooks. To keep her out of anymore danger.
Yup. And that elevator scene...it just felt like he was coming for Baby Goose and that money and she was way down on the list.
Maybe the movie spent too much time developing the relationships and giving us brief glimpses into Gosling's character (without ever revealing any more than he's an introverted sociopath with a possibly spotty past), so the chance to develop the danger for everyone else didnt pan out as well as it could have. I swear, if the movie were 30 minutes longer, threw in one more attempt on Irene's life, and showed us the deaths of Pearlman and Brooks in more detail, no one would have anything bad to say.

Only part I thought was too artistic was the stabbing scene between Gosling and Brooks. Would have been nice to see more than the shadows.

Yes. That was that...all or nothing ending. If you completely fell for the emotion and the style and the characters, then you should float off with that ending. If you were anywhere else with the movie, then #%!% you... You can't do that. That ending, more than anything, is why I couldn't recommend it to most of my friends, without hearing shhhh. Too artsy for it's own good.
Also, the soundtrack was phenomenal.

I believe I read that if you like Zooey, you'll like the show.

So that keeps it simple.

And I like her... a lot.

When I saw commercials for it months ago, I felt like there was no way I would watch it, despite how much of a fan I am.

Then they kept showing them, kept showing them, kept showing them... and it is impossible to deny her.

It will, no doubt, be an unabashed display of her charm for 22 a minutes a week, and that is more than enough incentive for me. Assuming the show itself is average or worse, she is about the only one I would make that sacrifice for.

2 Broke Girls while having funny moments is the definition of trying too hard

The writing is far too clever to be believable, its trying to capture the twentysomething audience but it still sounds like its coming from what a 50 year old writer thinks young people are like. Not to mention it relies on a pretty generic supporting cast.. Asian owner, offensive and rude cook, the funny older black guy who is there for some reason..

I read one favorable review of the show today (L.A. Times).  It said that Zooey definitely drives the show, but that the acting and writing is pretty good overall.  Although I'm somewhat anti-network sitcoms (I haven't watched one on a weekly basis since Seinfeld ended), I'm going to give New Girl a shot . . . this week.

^^^ I'd say the Departed is my favorite of all of those, but you can't go wrong with any of them.
