Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Watched Looper last night........Certainly interesting. I had no idea that little boy was the Phoenix, but ok. Liked the premise, really wish we could have seen the adult version of the Rainmaker, in fact, if one were smart, would that not be the sequel/prequel right there? The Rainmaker's accension to tremendous future crime lord complete with time travel and assassins, and floating quarters, who wouldn't watch that?

I'm sure that's what they were trying to pull off. See if there's enough interest to pull off a series here. Then again, this could be a one-off, and that's just how the story goes. You are hard-pressed to see a three hour movie anymore in theaters, and that's what this would have required if those scenes were included. In all honesty, there weren't many scenes I saw in Looper that could've been cut. It would've been nice to have more, but as a distributor, you want to be able to fit as many screenings as you can.

The Walking Dead was interesting...

Good to see that The Governor is growing more and more sinister each episode. From combing his zombie-daughters hair, to the Coliseum-esque scene with Merle and The Gov's other henchman, to The Governor threatening Michonne. I'm worried that Merle might die next episode after we saw Michonne all bloody in the preview for next episode. :frown: . Like I said last week, I really wish Merle would stay on this show at least a few more seasons, but I just don't see it happening.

Outside of the stuff with The Governor/Andrea/Michonne, and the Rick meltdown (which was awesome), I felt like there wasn't very much direction until the end of the episode. Wonder who's on the phone. If you've read the comic and know who it is, please don't say! .

Dexter...

Man, Dexter has EVERYONE on his tail right now.. The Koshcka (sp?) brothers, Deb, Hannah McKay (who's :pimp: btw), LaGeurta, everybody man! . I can really see where this show is coming to. Batista and Quinn are going to be caught up with the Koshcka brothers now, and both/one of them is going to be dead by the end of the season. LaGuerta might finally catch up with Dexter and might make leave. Deb faces the decision if she wants to let Dexter go, or stay with the only man she could ever trust. There's only one more season to go, and there isn't much room for new things. Miami Metro going after Dexter is the only plausible thing I see happening, unless they want to bring in another threat for Dexter, but I don't really want to see that. It has to be the downfall of Dexter, and Deb confronting him about her loving him. We'll see. Still got five episodes left in this season. In those five, I expect the death of Quinn in the next few, conclusion of both the Hannah McKay and Koshcka storylines, and build-up for the final season. I think it's pretty safe to say that Quinn is in jeopardy, and it'll be interesting if Batista lets go of Miami Metro, or if he seeks vengeance.

Am I the only one who enjoys Comic Book Men? I really like all the guys on the show, and it's fun to see a little bit of comic book culture. I understand that most of it scripted, but I'm okay with that. . Nerd-culture is awesome sometimes.

I've been watching The Next Iron Chef on Sundays too.. :nerd:

Not that I needed another reason to dislike Blake Lively... but that movie clinched it. "Wargasms" Sloot.

Caught Flight last night.

Denzel got me to buy into him as an alcoholic... something I never considered likely when I saw the trailer. The entire crash scene was tantalizing and really had you on the edge of your seat. :wow: the plane flipping in mid-air and people falling/sliding onto the ceiling. :smh: :wow: John Goodman stole every scene he was in "C-Lo    " Could've used WAYYYYY more Goodman. Cheadle played a strategic and plan-for-every-scenario lawyer, even though Denzel threw a curveball at the end. The red-headed girl... could take her or leave her. Didn't find her attractive in the slightest, nor her character interesting. The ending was interesting, but at the same time I hated it if that makes sense?

I thought the movie was slow but the acting performances by Denzel and Goodman and the crash scene made the movie for me. I don't think that it's a must-see in theaters at all though.

Just saw Flight on Saturday, and I pretty much have the same exact thoughts as you did...Something about the end made me pissed off

Fourth Star Wars Trilogy to Possibly Revolve Around Darth Vader

Fourth Star Wars trilogy may revolve around Darth Vader. It wouldn't be a new day in the Star Wars Universe without a bit of news regarding the impending films that will seemingly continue long after you're dead. As of now, Walt Disney Pictures plans to release an original Star Wars adventure once every two years beginning with Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015.

Star Wars: Episode VII is said to kick off the third trilogy, which will take place quite a few years after the events seen in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi. Michael Arndt is currently set as the sole writer of the screenplay, and he will be working off original ideas and themes created by George Lucas. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C3P0, and R2D2 are all rumored to be returning in some capacity. And the fact that both Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher have slimmed down considerably since taking a lunch meeting with George Lucas last summer seems to point to their eventual involvement.

So, we have a vague idea where this is headed. Michael Arndt's story is going to work in setting up Star Wars: Episode VIII, which arrives in 2017, and Star Wars: Episode IX, which will arrive in 2019. But what about the movies after this?

Well, a sneaky spy, also known as an "industry insider" with close ties to Lucasfilm has let it slip that the fourth trilogy will revolve around Darth Vader's early years under Emperor Palpatine. It's also possible that within this timeline, we will see a teenage Han Solo and Lando Calrissian who join the Imperial Army as new recruits. Basically, Lucasfilm wants to use classic characters in new ways, because that's what the fans want, right?

The Lucasfilm insider had this to say about Darth Vader's eventual resurrection.

"He's an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible. The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films. This is science fiction remember. Darth Vader will rise from the ashes."

There is no word on whether or not Hayden Christensen has taken any lunch meetings with George Lucas in regards to reprising the role of Darth Vader. By the time 2021 rolls around, the actor might be just the right age at 40 to play a Darth Vader coming to grips with his robotic outer shell. You know who else will be the perfect age to play Darth Vader? Jake Lloyd. As the film is nearly ten years away from production at this point, its impossible to guess who'll play a young Han and Lando.

Steven Spielberg's next film Robopocalpyse
I can't even begin to tell you guys how awful that sounds to me.
 It's like he's permanently stuck making movies he wishes he could've made in 1993.

Really?
That's the triple happy-facer.
That's what does it for you?
Cuz that's the Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs to me.

Hell yeah, we were robbed in the second trilogy.

Ben told the story in the og movie 77, Vader hunted down and killed the Jedi, including your father.

What did we get? He killed a preschool and the only Jedi he actually fought whooped his *** and left him there smokin.

**** that. They need to go all the way back, and show him actually hunting down some Jedi and finishing that **** the RIGHT way.
Also, there was a book released a few years back that addressed it, and that **** was better than the second three movies put together. It was all about his struggle with following the Emporer, and his new limbs, and using the force for something as simple as breathing and walking, all of it. And he of course hunted down some hiding Jedi and handled that ****.

You daaaaaaaaaaaamn right I wanna see that on screen. Lucas gave me an 8 year old boy, a whiny love struck teenager, and then a burnt biscuit with one arm left. When I finally "see" Vader, I hear his stupid ******g *** ask about his girl, scream noooooooo like a *****, and then fold his arms next to the Emporer and that's the only cool ******g thing he did in 3 God damn movies. 10 seconds. I got TEN seconds of Vader worth seeing.

You ask me if I want to see it done right someday? Um, yeah. Like yesterday dude.

Best scene in the first 3 movies, **** you George Lucas. Eat a ****

I caught Skyfall today.

This will contain some spoilers, so don't read ahead if you ain't seen it.

I'm admittedly not the biggest James Bond fan. I never was. My first exposure to 007 was Goldeneye on Nintendo 64. He just wasn't as big as he was when I was growing up. I caught all the movies that came out in my lifetime, but never made it a must-see for me. Pierce just didn't do it for me, and while I thought the first two Craig movies were fine, nothing stood out for me.

With the new Bond 50 Blu-ray set out, I'm really looking forward to purchasing it and seeing the legacy of James Bond, because I know there's stuff there I'll love.

First head about this, and was just like "Eh, whatever, I'll catch it on TV." The hype grew, it got good reviews, and it made me lean more towards catching it.

I really liked it. I felt like before there was just nothing at risk. In the end, everything would be alright, James Bond would get the girl, and he will continue to be who he is. I liked the direction it took, where Parliament begins to question whether or not the MI6 was played out or not.

But really, this film isn't as successful without Javier Bardem. Good lord man… WOW. In the first half-hour/forty-five minutes, I was like eh, man, this is kind of typical. I honestly didn't go into this knowing Bardem would be the villain, and I missed his name in the credits, but the second he comes on screen, I bought it. I loved it. Definitely the most versatile Bond-villain I'VE seen. That doesn't count for much, but I felt like he was actually a threat. Maybe not so much to James Bond, but definitely to M.

Speaking of, what a swan song for Judi Dench. She was great. Struggling to grasp ahold of the present, fighting for what she believes in (MI6), and willing to fight till the very end for the program. It was great to see. I loved it. I loved her.

The rest of the supporting cast was fine. I really like Noamie Harris (28 Days Later), and although she didn't have the biggest role, it was nice to see her. Also nice to see that she was more than just tail in the end (Moneypenny :pimp: ). Another great addition was Q, who I really liked. He was modern enough, but doesn't trick out James Bond with so much crap that he seems like Robocop. Ralph Fiennes as the new M will be interesting. I didn't know any better and thought that Naomie Harris might be the new M, but I'm fine with how things went.

The action was a bit over-the-top in the beginning, but I love that it became an old-school action film after the first hour of the film, all the way back to the vehicles. The train scene was cool and all, but if it was to be like that for the rest of the film, it would have been sensory overload. Personally that scene atop the skyscraper was the best aesthetically.

This makes me even more excited to dig into the 007 lore. Can't wait. :pimp:

^I need to get on that.

 I'm just waiting to hear Damon Lindelof was brought on to help on the script.

Late check-in for movie of the week club. :nerd:

Pollock was on the other day...nice movie. Big Head Harris sank into dude's demons well, Marcia Gay Harden gave her same ol' "I can't tell if you're even acting or if this is just you" and man did I forget what young Jennifer Connolly had to offer...has to offer.

...she doesn't age, what happened to her career?

So I saw that new Straw Dogs movie. Kate Bosworth is still  ...but it feels like so many chicks passed her by when they were trying to hype her up as the hottest thing ever a while back that she's still sorta, just there. Not a bad actress, but not much presence either?

I saw the og Straw Dogs a few years ago, and a part of the allure and effect was how classy beautiful the lead chick was and sorta dweebish, introverted Dustin Hoffman was. The dichotomy between their looks...the feeling like he hit the lotto getting her and the real world was gonna break in and explain to him that he's too low on the food chain to hold that down.

That's not in this Straw Dogs. Kate Bosworth has that girl next door sort of beauty and James Marster...You know that joke where to make a girl ugly in Hollywood they give her glasses and a ponytail. This is the dude version of that. Alexander Skaargard (sp) is supposed to be that real man from the country that's supposed to take Kate, because Marster's not good enough for her? No ocean, but Marster can't hide Hollywood leading man looks behind some regular glasses and some forced nerdiness. Or that he's not some shrimp intellectual. Or that Bosworth is way out of his league. Or that he couldn't hold his own in a fight with one of them.

And then the direction...this movie is supposed to be a...Breaking Bad/Six Feet Under/The Mist flavor of movie...they directed it like The Notebook.

6/10, because at least they had good intentions...just...some misguided decisions. The og is really good though.

Same way I felt...Never saw the OG, but it seems like they could have made this movie way better

Watched Ted and Warrior recently.

Ted was alright; a lot funnier than I expected it to be.

Warrior was absolutely amazing.

Skyfall

Absolutely loved it. Anyone who has not yet seen it, don't read past this, I am going to talk about it in detail, stop now, and come back after you've seen it. I did that with JA's post, I wouldn't read his until I saw the movie and then came in and saw what he had to say.

I've now seen the last 7 Bonds. Goldeneye was the first I ever saw, and I loved it. The next 3 sucked royally. Then Casino Royale came out and I was addicted to that damn film. Solace was just as solid imo, however it lost something with the grittiness of it compared to the beauty of Royale. I think that's where people got lost. They also had major issues with the story being written while already filming, the chaos of the money stuff, the writers strike, etc etc. So overall it did suffer a little, even tho I still thought it was solid and certainly better than the last 3 Brosnan flicks.
Skyfall brings it all back tho. Equal in beauty to Royale, the imagery was ******g amazing, the camera angles when Q comes in, the boat ride up to the casino with him fully swagged. The fight in the tower, Shanghai was freaking incredible, the color, all of it.

Seeing him torn down, and brought back, making him look older, and grizzled as opposed to always flawless in Royale. Showing him having to struggle to get back.

The scene in the courtroom where they sit there and doubt the people hiding in shadows, all the while they are about to be in true danger, and someone from the shadows emerge to save their *****, LOVED IT. The wink by Bond to the new M as he saw him in action, picking up a gun and helping out. Loved that part.

Javier Bardem. :pimp: What an amazing job by all. Not just him, he was brilliant of course, but the director not even bringing him in until an hour into the film, and then that long walk with him talking to Bond, the way it was shot, slowly step by step was just masterful. The scene with his dentures tho. :wow:

I was THRILLED when they went to the old school nods with the car, the music, bringing back Q, Moneypenny, clearing out Dench for a newer, fresher face, they set up the next film PERFECTLY, as if to say we have brought it all back to the beginning, moreso than they did with Royale and Solace. They focused on Bond, with M, but not much else, this film brought it all back.

The helicopter scene outside the house was a complete nod to the copter in Russia With Love. Loved it. The whole time I kept thinking about the inevitable video game and having to deal with that. Loved the word play game when he was being tested, and his reaction to Skyfall, only to later see what it meant. Even that, brings it all back to Royale when Vespa mentions that they love to nab Orphans for their double 00 agents. They take care of ALL things Bond in this film.

Easy 9-9.5 for me. Can't wait for it to hit Blu Ray and can not wait for them to start working on Bond 24. Suddenly the franchise is in real good shape and I hope they keep it goin. Craig has 2 more films left, and then we'll see it all start over again around 2020 or so.

Dudes: Late Pass here but for the NT 80's movie heads -- the end of this past summer I was in Chicago and drove up to some John Hughes filming locations  :pimp: :pimp: I may have to post pics here (yes I posed in the exact movie scene situations). Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller were all filmed in a couple-mile radius in a Chicago suburb.

Cross one off my bucket list

I know what :nerd: you speak of.

I need to get to End of Watch myself. TDKR I am waiting til the actual Blu comes out. I don't want any sort of distortion when I re-live that film.

Looper was a trip.

Ninja Turtles I and II are so copped after Christmas. :smokin I believe they have a new live action Turtle movie comin out next year I think? :nerd:

I hate the reboxing they do with sets after you already pick up a couple of the first movies, then they box it up later. Gets me every single time. I already have BB and TDK, I can't be buyin the whole set all over. It's like buyin Star Wars for the 7th time, which I've already done, and assume will have to AGAIN someday. :smh:

Same with the QT set. **** man, I have damn near all his movies on Blu already, why they make a nice set now? Bunch of ********.

There's a new TMNT cartoon out, apparently it's been praised by lots of fans, and yes there's a new film coming out.

Again, CP, don't buy that Blu-ray set of The Dark Knight Rises. If you want to get the best set, it'll be coming out next year sometime. "The Dark Knight Trilogy," is just a repackage of all the previous content. Next year there will be a better box set.

RyGuy, you have a region free player?
