Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Just because the headline I tried reading this to see if they could even make a valid argument.. But the premise is extremely flawed

http://variety.com/2016/film/columns/ben-hur-jack-huston-charlton-heston-1201841537/

Whoever came up with the idea to remake ben hur needs to be fired.. No star was going to make the idea an even better one

Hell, I could even get behind the idea of a Ben hur film if a quality film maker was the one behind it.. Not the guy whose last film was Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter

Vice Principals is low key crushing it right now. :pimp:

Dude blew the wheelie when it mattered

I don't find the comedy on Vice Principals funny at all.

Same way I couldn't get in to Eastbound and Down.

Reminds me of Party Down.

Forgot to add that I saw Thelma & Louise for the first time tonight. 6/8 really well shot and some great early performances from a lot of top actors.

surprised it has been mentioned in here yet but BBC got 177 critics from around the world to vote on the greatest films in the 21st century.

List of who voted and for what

Why #1 is #1

And a nice graphic about some facts!

Eternal Sunshine #6 in a list of all movies in the entire world yet @JapanAir21 was giving me grief about picking them with my 2nd round pick in the Movie Draft. :rolleyes
Dude even went as far as saying it didnt even belong in top 20 sci fi films for that decade :smh:

We know why more male critics voted for Mulholland Drive than female critics.

pretty interesting list. i haven't seen most of the foreign films on there but i should pick a few to watch. suggestions?

how the heck is spring breakers on there? was it a good movie? i didn't watch it. nice to see requiem for a dream. easily my most favorite drug movie. i work in a rehab and have been wanting to show it to the clients but can't get approval from the other admins

seeing amelie on there reminds me of how surprised at how great that movie was visually. rented the DVD back in the day on a whim and enjoyed it.

Hot takes:

Shame deserves top 20.
Spring Breakers doesnt belong in the top 1000.
Mulholland Dr. is such a mind **** that I only watched once, might go back and rewatch.
There Will be Blood would have been my choice.
Mad Max listed at 19 :pimp:

So many films in the bottom half that I feel should be higher. Some deserve top 25 status off first look, but for the films I haven't seen, I can't drop out. So it's hard to say which should be dropped.

Under The Skin at 61? Movie was ok, definitely weird to watch.

Nice to see Blue Is The Warmest Color, Pan's Labrynith, Spirited Away, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on there.

Mad Max: Fury Road at 19, yes.

I just wanted to come in here and mention again how disappointing Triple 9 was.
Movie was absolute trash.

again, what a waste of such an amazing cast. Wow.
No wonder they rushed the dvd/bluray release.

After less than a year off of NT, I came back a while ago but have neglected to come in here... Came to post this...

RIP Steven Hill. Loved me some Law & Order.

yea.. going through that list there are a lot of films I think are way too high..

like I would probably put 2 other fincher films higher than zodiac (gone girl and social network).. and I love zodiac and fincher's films in general

going through that list, no country for old men might be my top choice.. also agree shame should have been higher.. ex machina would also be pretty high for me, not even sure that's on the list

i cant even remember if I've watched mullholland dr all the way through.. only thing i remember is the dinner scene and then it got nudity

Shame is a movie that makes you say "whoa" after watching it. It also has me almost considering making eye contact with fine women on the train but no eye contact is one of the train riding rules.

Boyhood in the top 5? Can't **** with that list.

When I see movie lists like that with so many recent movies in it, as recent as last year it Makes me think the list isn't that good or that somehow there aren't that many great classic movies as I thought. Yeah it's only the last 15 or 16 years but still.

I love PTA but Inherent Vice in the top 100?

Dann Steven Hill was still alive?

I loved him in Law & Order obviously. Best tv DA and NYC DA in fictional history. I honestly thought he does shortly after he left the show in the 2000s cuz I recall when Jack got the job there'd be eps where he'd be like Adam is in Africa or on a cruise and I swore there was an ep where he mentioned he died or going to his funeral.

Other noticeable stuff he was prominently in:

Mission Impossible (OG)
The Firm
Yentyl
Raw Deal

It definitely hit the social norms, mores and taboos perfectly, and how a sex addict tries to navigate through them and through a society that's entrenched in, yet vilifies, sex. McQueen and Fassbender killed it. Solidly one of the best of the young century.

Yo I'm damn well not reading that list up there if spring breakers is on it. That is one of the worst movies ever made, it can't even be argued into a top movies list, it was just really bad.

Mulholand drive #1? That movie is decent but it a major troll movie. Movie was meant to be a full series, then midway through shooting the pilot, the production company wanted to go another route. Director said eff y'all I'll just make it a movie based on what we've already shot. Result is literally everything they shot, edited to resemble some sort of plot. People calling it one of the greatest of all time makes me laugh every time
