Post your toys! Vol. 1?

Messed around with the orange power baser + god armor from FansHobby this weekend and this thing is so obnoxiously large and over the top 😂😂 with this I think I can tap out of transformers lol prior to the biggest figures I has are the machine wars optimus and the armada prime also froM Fanshobby. Enjoy all the pics for scale. Tough deciding which power master prime I like more between fanshobby and make toys

man that Armada Prime is just so awesome looking and i'm so mad i missed out, espc since they're doing all the add on figures for him

This right here is the key. When it comes to painting and customizing you can’t fake it to make or half step your way into good results. Most of the time it ends up making things more difficult in the process. I used to run in a lot of influencer circles in the gunpla space a few years back and when I talked to people who gave up on painting altogether complained about how frustrating it was but they were also using craft aisle paint, hardware store spray paint, and 20 air brushes. Of course you’re going to run into issue. Luckily for me I made it 75% of the way though my first kit taking as many shortcuts that I could to real size if I’m going to do it I gotta to doing it the ways the pros do

This the first kit I tried to paint. It was a nightmare. Cheap Amazon air brush. I used “prethinned” acrylic paints that I tried to thin even further with water because I read you could do that if you didn’t want to buy proper thinner. The paint came out super textured and peeled up so easily. It was a terrible time and I still won’t use acrylic paints to this day. Not just cause of the experience but also cause they’re pretty crappy in the grand scheme of things and slow down your work flow so much with that 24-48 hours drying time.

And these are all kits I painted once I started taking it seriously and investing in the right supplies and not cutting corners.

After 5 painted Kia I jumped right into resin kits and I’ve posted this one a few times

It’s definitely time consuming, but most people that paint model kits do it by airbrush which honestly makes it so much easier if youre using a good air brush and good paint. A lot different than painting a portrait. That said There’s a decent cost barrier upfront if you really want to be equipped to do decent work. The only really artistry behind it is
Figuring out a color scheme that looks good. Other than that it’s 90% covering a piece of plastic with paint and 10% learning how to thin your paint properly and clean the air brush.

But that’s the fun thing about gunpla, you don’t need to do any of that to fan fun building them. I might build 15-20 kits a year and only have 2-3 painted projects in that time.

100% you can def tell, though i don't paint model kits bcuz i'm not big on them, but i can see the diff btwn the first and more recently done kits you posted. Being an action figure customizer and lazy i do use cheap acrylic (cant use enamels on soft plastic though like you can on model kits) walmart paints and hobby lobby paint brushes, which means my paint customs are just ok, but i only need to impress myself, if I ever thought about going into business doing this I would def put out for better materials, I did buy a $150-200 air brush kit feom Amazon that a friend recommended me from TWF2005 but I haven't even unboxed it yet  I'll post some of my customs I've done over the last yr, while I was in Korea most of 2021 I supported McF idea of it being yr of the Spawn.....pic heavy

I got big on mixing and matching action figure parts and painting them to become new figures

Action figures lend themselves to be painted by hand and with acrylics so much better though. Textures make sense on human figures. Clothes, costumes, armor, fur/hair. Organic stuff. That adds depth to figures. Gundam model kits are all about large flat surfaces, sharp angles and lines. So when you don’t paint evenly and smooth it stands out badly. Your figures have a “real” effect to them that looks great. I will say though, air brushing could still speed up your work flow pretty quickly even if you’re just using it for base coats. All the fine details you can paint by hand.

Also if you want to be able to use enamel it’s still possible! Get your self some mr hobby gloss top coat and coat the surface of the pieces that you’ll be painting with enamel. Gloss coat will add a protective layer between your plastic and the enamel paint. It also acts like a work surface because you can actually use zippo lighter fluid on a q-tip to wipe away enamel paint, which makes it very easy to get clean lines. The gloss coat also makes it a lot easier to apply water slide decals. When you’re done, follow up with a semi gloss or matte coat for your desired finish. Strategically using enamel paint saves me hours of masking work.

It took me about 2 years to work up the courage to bust out my airbrush set too lmao

Do you custom mythic legions ?^^^^

I thought I posted my custom Fury/Famine (mixed Mythic Legion female parts) in here, actually nows a better time since I made an update to her so here she is with Death (Death)

I actually used dye on her instead of paint, but I only died the jagged armor piece that were a charcoal like color to a more black matte and I loved the results, I've learned how to dye figs as well as paint

it would still depend on the quality. have seen cheaper and better looking K.O. from AliExpress.

$50 is a pass. I bet they get through a couple waves and then pull the plug on it.

If every other company can make fully articulated action figure for $20 or so. Hasbro can make an exclusive for $30

I was super excited for this but $50 is wild

think it has more to do with licensing with panini making them that much. Used a 30% off code from fanatics and fan cash and got them for about 25 a piece.

where did you cop crimson guard?!

My amazon order and BBTS says its slated for March 2023 lol

I got mine from BBTS. There was a wave of orders fulfilled before mine and I was SALTY for a bit then got the notification a few weeks after that.

ODB Super 7 Ultimate Pre-Order

The starscream is 85 shipped on showzstore right now

Also anyone else who collects mp scale, this is 70 shipped there

Yeah, I ordered that one like a week ago from them. Still waiting since its coming from overseas. I almost bought Quietus from Tfsource, but the DS-01 molds kept calling my name.
