QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

I know they do a play by play/decision thing, like if Brees makes the right read, correct throw, and Player drops it, they give Brees credit for the play, even with a negative result. ( 8o )

I know many folks around here struggle with that concept. :lol

But #2? Maaaaan, I dunno about all that. That seems, generous. Would need to see exactly what they point to and ignore in terms of their grading.

And it's not just PFF, outsiders has him at 4, so they both pretty much agree on this. That's the surprise to me.

PFF on Luck:

Question: "How come Luck didn't make the list?!"

Answer:
The simple answer is that Luck isn’t as good as some people think he is. When the game is on the line there may be few quarterbacks better, but there is still a pretty large element of ‘Bad Luck’ during games where he misses too many routine throws and makes too many poor plays. Those are reflected in his play-by-play grading and explains why he finished the year graded as just the 10th best QB while only five [Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees & Tom Brady] made the list.
In all seriousness I don't agree with their rating system for QBs at all in a general sense, it's all over the place.  Hitting open receivers becomes meaningless whereas making a tight, risky throw is extremely valuable.

Wait... Philip Rivers finished ahead of Andrew Luck in PFFs grading? Did they stop paying attention at week 6?

I think that quote's actually based on last year, not sure.  Just pasted it to cast some doubt on their grading.

Google their Ryan Tannehill obsession.

The Seahawks, Lions and Bills have three of the top four defenses in the NFL through 16 weeks. Rodgers has played against all three. In those games, the Packers are 0-3 and Rodgers is a combined 56 for 102 for 532 yards with two touchdowns and three picks. He may be the best quarterback in football and the 2014 MVP. But put him up against a good to great defense, and he'll have a hard time just like anyone else.

Phil Rivers washed Seattle

Tom Brady washed Detroit

More teams washed the Bills than I can count.

Put some heat on Shaky with your front 4 and its a wrap.

And can I expand on how dumb of a stat that 1-3 is when the team in question is 12-4 at the end of the season?  Dudes lost 4 games, 3 of them to top 4 defense in the league and all on the road..........

I think the throw he had to Chase Ford in the corner was even better. I don't have a gif of that one tho, just a still, do you see anything somewhere, the one in the corner. (that should have been a touchdown)

Based on

Quarterbacks are ranked according to DYAR, or Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement. This gives the value of the quarterback 's performance compared to replacement level, adjusted for situation and opponent and then translated into yardage.

There are some other measurements, but this is the one they have everyone listed by.

If you want to Mariota to be a "dual-threat" guy, then you hire a guy who can call a spread, but run-based offense.

.@E_Money18 If I'm drafting Mariota, I'm interviewing Carl Smith (SEA's QB Coach) for my OC position. SEA gets balance out of Wilson.

Teams will have a choice with Mariota: Try to get immediate production by tailoring offense or coach him to be a more precise pocket passer.

If you want Mariota to be a more precise pocket passer, then you have to force him into an uncomfortable offense to help him learn faster.

A strong second half from the Cowboys’ offense shouldn’t have come as a surprise. Tony Romo had a second-half Total QBR of 89.6 this season, best in the NFL. The next closest was Ben Roethlisberger (78.7) of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Romo has 28 career game-winning drives (according to the Elias Sports Bureau), tied with Eli Manning for the most game-winning drives in the regular season and playoffs combined since Romo's first season as a starter in 2006.

Q: Did you know Peyton Manning has to win the Super Bowl this year to push his career playoff record above .500?
—Augie, Irvine

BS: Did you know Peyton Manning has lost more playoff games (12) than any quarterback ever? Did you know he’s 1-2 in the Super Bowl, and that he lost those two games by a combined 49 points? Did you know Manning’s regular-season passer rating (97.5) is 8.3 points higher than his playoff rating (89.2), even though he played 30 percent of those playoff games on the road? Did you know that Manning’s team was favored in 10 of his 12 playoff losses? Did you know he has more one-and-done postseasons (eight) than any other QB ever? Did you know he has only one game-winning drive in the playoffs? Did you know he’s lost playoff games to Jay Fiedler, Mark Sanchez and Chad Pennington? Did you know he threw three touchdowns and seven picks during his one Super Bowl–winning playoff run? Did you know that he’s 2-5 in outdoor playoff games on the road, with those two wins coming against Trent Green and a washed-up Steve McNair? Did you know that he destroyed the 2013 Pats to the tune of 400 yards, 2 TDs, 0 picks and a 118.4 passer rating and I should immediately shut up?

This is hilarious from Simmons. Seems extremely anti, til you get to the end......

The perks of being QB on a .500 team for most years of your career.  Lots of chances for game winning drives.
