Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Man I used to listen to a lot of Bay Area and Cali rappers:

Rass Kass, Mack 10, Snoop, Kurupt, Dog Pound, Sugar Free, Mc Eiht, DJ Quick, Cube, Dre, Warren G, Dove Shack, Above the Law, Compton Most Wanted, soul of Mischief, MC Breed, pharcyde, ants banks, bad ***, bloods & crips, DJ Pooh, Jayo Felony, south Central Cartel

E-40, MAC Mall, B-Legit, Celly Cel, Domino, Goldy, JT, Luniz, Yuckmouth, Rappin 4 Tay, Spice 1, Suga T, Too Short (who’s actually from Louisiana), 3x Krazy, Brotha Lynch, Dru Down, Richie Rich, The Click, Goldy

MC Breed wasn't from Cali, was from Flint, just was cool with Tupac.
and Too Short is actually from LA

Changing flows doesnt equate to having writers. HOV started sounding like Young Chris. Did he write for Hov?

He didn't sound like Young Chris for whole albums. And Busta was doing that before Young Chris.

Wayne did a lot more than change flows, he changed his whole style. He started doing strictly metaphors rapping like Cassidy.

People just have a hard time accepting that rappers have writers/co-writters/references...

It’s no difference than R&B. Why the double standard when it comes to this?

But let’s be real, why haven’t Wayne had a hot track since Carter 2?

500 degreez was such a big flop! I remember having that album and gave it away. Lights off, TBIH, Squad series were great for those Times.

Because rap is supposed to be centered around lyrics, because at it's core it's supposed to be poetry. Singing and other forms are based around the musical arrangement. That's what has always separated rap. So it's supposed to be your creativity and ideas.

in retrospect, 9-11-07 was the last day of street hip hop dominating, after that, the emo/nerd era was ushered in

why did Curtis (album) have to be mediocre :smh:

What's that date? Date 50's career was officially dead and the day he became a caricature?

Didn't know Breed from Flint.

Short Dog went to school in Engard, Louisiana for some time (Some of his family is there). My aunt and him were classmates and are still friends to this day.

Just like Juvenile...Family from 'Cornland' (Reserve, Louisana), used to go to school there for awhile. Childhood nickname is "Two Nuc".

But I get it, it's about what city had the most impact on you.

Read a rumor about Drake hiding a second seed. Alleged BM got the NDA treatment too. No more IG posts after being on it a lot, was a stripper or something too.

Yessir, I remember that time vividly.

50 went from dropping 2 duds (Amusement Park/Straight To the Bank), to claiming he’ll retire if Kanye outsells him

Kanye comes with Can’t Tell Me Nothing/Stronger and kills the game, 50 found gold with I Get Money which wasn’t even part of the album, it was some last minute gem...caught fire with that, then all that press run between them two, 9/11/07 comes, Kanye outsells 50 by like 300,000 copies

50 resorted to the pop record “Ayo Technology”, the same ish he was killing Ja Rule for :smh:

he got the next wave.

his 808 and drum programming all over yikes down to the 808 being the one that comes with the kit you find when you search pierre bourne drum kit lol

it was all over the daytona beats too lol mainly santerria lol

he was on the couch during the ye vs. the people video....hope they dont ty to act like he didnt contribte ****

Pierre said they updating the credits don’t trip lol

That’s one thing about Kanye and them tho, they’ve straight up ripped off _’s samples without paying on multiple occasions but you can tell they’ve always respected the artistry of the young _’s cause he really could’ve just got the Jugg 808 and had the sound like everybody else on SoundCloud and YouTube

Mike Dean more than capable of recreating that Pierre sound, he had to remake the whole Panda beat from scratch by ear because the dumb *** producer lost the stems smh lol

It’s the same way they used Lex on WTT tho, _’s already had the “Lex sound” by then but they still brought him in and let him do his own **** with the drums and synths

Just disgusting. My G-Unit stanning was rapidly going down in flames heading into that album :lol His press run for that was insane. BET practically had days blocked off for him premiering Amusement Park and Straight To The Bank. Brick after brick until he accidentally struck gold with I Get Money. You could tell 50 wasn’t indestructible 50 anymore. Kanye outselling him combined with Birdman’s son’s continued ascent ended 50. He was finished by the time BISD came out.

Ayo Technology

That has to be one of the most awful single I've ever heard from a major artist. Still to this day wonder who listened to that and thought it was good, much less be a single.

I wouldn't be shocked with the way he messes with strippers.

I just went back and watched that Johnni Blaze Vlad interview where she was saying Drake went up in her raw. Everyone thought she was crazy and after attention.

I ****** with Amusement Park and Straight to the Bank. Wasn't really ****in with Ayo Tech but it was cool. Album had a lot of misses but I was still messing with it. Man Down was on repeat, I Get Money was on repeat for like a month.

Forget that. This sounds dumb.

Did he really think trying to imply Push is so desperate he sent goons to Paris to rob Kim? Better off pulling a Pac and claiming he banged Kim and would bang Pusha's fiancee.
If I said pusha gonna drop a diss
About drake wishing he was more black
And him having a baby by a pornstar
Before the diss came out
Folks would say that sounded trash
Folks dismissing it without hearing it :{

I never even heard that Cam/Vado song

I liked some Vado stuff but idk, him and dudes like Maino, Writer etc just didn’t have “It” for that next level

East is like a new improved version of him to me, they got a very similar presence on the track and demeanor. It’s looking like he could fall into that same “in between” level but I think he has a lot bigger female base

Edit: the songs East and Vado have been dropping lately are good tho they gotta drop that project soon

Turning into lipstick alley over here.

Never liked the Cam/Vado era, and Cam is one of my favorites. East and Vado are the same to me, guys who make very average songs without any distinct factor. I think NY was just thirsty for any type of street artist. There were a couple of lesser known guys making waves like Manolo Rose but I haven't heard anything great come out of here in a while.

Only a few Vado songs I like
But the last one I heard was FLAMES
can’t remember the name
Butbhad that old dipset feel
And the chorus was a sped up sample
That said
“U don’t know my name”
Song was FIRE
