Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I mean I'd have security too

Dont really look like police. That car could be undercover tho.

There's police that work as security, bouncers etc "off duty" but they'll still use the uniforms/cars and **** so thats prolly what it is

****tttttttt.

It’s classic for me.

:smokin

This. It has more replay value than a lot of his beloved older albums too.

Still, minus Blue Magic and that terrible terrible Hello Brooklyn 2.0 song, I loved American Gangster.

Ppl hated Blue Magic hard back then, yeah Jay took a couple bars off but I wasn't mad at it, the beat alone :smokin

I miss blueprint 3 hov

Blue magic was hard af tho. I like how he freaked the bdk/rakim flow

Blame Oliver north and Iran contra
I ran contra-band that they sponsored

****** probably don't even know what he talking bout

Jockin Jay Z
Brooklyn (We Go Hard)
Money Goes, Honeys Stay (not the Fab version)

all joints leading up to BP3, should’ve made the cut

On to the next one - Weak
Off that - Dumb trash. Like really bad
Star is born - cringey
Venus vs Mars - triddash
Hate - Mad trash
Forever young - Meh.

A star is born was great. It seemed as though he was praising those rappers but he was really ****ting on them for no longer being relevant.

Self righteous narcissistic HOV :smokin

The beat knocked it down a peg for me. It was too upbeat and cheery.

If you didn't like hate I don't know what's wrong with you . Hov took that trendy big Sean flow and ripped that ****. Beat was jiggy too

Song is HARD

“I father, I Brooklyn Dodger them
I Jack, I Rob, I sin
Aw man, I'm Jackie Robinson
Except when I run base, I dodge the pen”

:sick::sick::sick:

Only thing that bothered me was Jays attempt at patios  His mom is Jamaican and couldn’t muster something better than that :smh:

Star is born is hard.

He gave a 32 bar history of hip hop just to say y’all was cool but y’all ain’t me

Cole skated on that too

“The flows cold as a shoulder of a gold digging **** when a broke ***** approaches“
I made the sour face when I first heard that bar

American Gangster is a perfect album to me. The storytelling, the content, the ups and downs of the drug game. Probably Jay's best album lyrically.

In the clouds of smoke, been playin' this Marvin
Mama forgive me, should be thinkin' bout Harvard
But that's too far away, ****** are starving
Ain't nothin' wrong with aim, just gotta change the target
I got dreams of baggin' snidd-ow the size of pillows
I see pies everytime my eyes clidd-ose
I see rides, sixes, i gotta get those
Life's a *****, I hope not to make her a widow

You're now in a game where only time can tell
Survive the droughts, i wish you well...
Survive the droughts? I wish you well?
How sick am i? I wish you HEALTH
I wish you wheels, i wish you wealth
I wish you insight so you could see for yourself

You could see the signs, when the jackers is schemin'
And the cops is comin', you could read they mind
You could see from behind, you could redefine
The game as we know it, one dream at a time
I'm American dreamin'

We ain't thugs for the sake of just being thugs
Nobody do that where we grew at, *****, DUH!
The poverty line, we not above
So out come the mask and glove cause we ain't feelin' the love
We ain't doing crime for the sake of doing crime
We movin' dimes cause we ain't doin' fine
One out of three of us is locked up doing time
You know what that type of **** can do to a ***** mind?

When i get to one brick, then the game i will depart with
Got to one brick then i looked to the sky, said
Sorry God, i lied, but give me one more try
Got to two bricks, new cars, new whips
But ****** never learn til' they end up in the newsclip
The irony of selling drugs is sort of like i'm using it
Guess its two sides to what 'substance abuse' is

Cause come January, it gets cold
When the letters start to slow, when your commissary's low
When your lawyer screams "Appeal!" only thinkin' bout a bill
When your chances are nil, damn, gravity's ill...

Top to bottom painting those pictures, album is a lyrical masterpiece and those soul beats. :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:
