Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

That dude been rapping about sus **** since he came out, I don't know how it worked for him this time...The internet had me believing he really came out via a statement or something. I didn't hear the song to peep how he said it, but reading the lyrics had me saying to myself thsts regular for him:lol:

It really isn't tho. The song with Estelle is clearly personal and he's definitely not "trolling". If that isn't coming out, I don't know what it is. I guess a press release was needed...

Meek's album is indeed a flop by any metric. He had an actual album roll out, features out the *** on the LP, etc. I'm going to go out on the limb and say that the Label expected way more than 37K physical copies. He sold over 200k in physical copies w/ DWMTM.

But like I said in that Meek thread that sucks because this is for sure his best album. Really good LP.

There were leaks about Apple and Tidal doing funny stuff with the streams but honestly it was too much for me to try and keep up with. I assume everyone getting at least 10-15k added on to their **** lol.

That was a more female centered album, and him breaking up with Nicki and going at Drake might have caused most of them to jump ship

Tidal likes to embellish their #s. Tidal a joke

I think Apple and Tidal both do

Spotify is the only one who doesn't have a stake in streams

Not surprised at all about the fu fu streaming numbers from apple/tidal

Exactly why i hate that it counts towards album sales. So easy to skew

but at the same time its how most ppl consume music nowadays and who actually buys physical albums

they're beginning to not even put cd players in cars and laptops...im pretty sure the latest mac doesnt even have a cd thingy

and didnt def jam used to buy albums

different consumption, same hustle, it's even cheaper now because it's all digital

and didnt def jam used to buy albums

Cash money did too

I remember being amazed Samsung bought a million MCHG albums until I found out he sold em for a dollar.

Streaming is harder to skew unless the company itself is lying

This is all true too.

Im still old school and like to buy physicals of my favorite artists'

But very true, my newest macbook removed teh cd drive.

My VW dealership gave me a loaner car and it didnt have a cd player in it either. Only apple play or whatever its called.

Im still not on board with streaming music as my primary means but i know before the end of the decade im going to have to concede smh

Cars and computers got rid of CD drives 2-3 years ago now.

All streaming companies fudge the numbers. **** ain't surprising or news.

I still buy CDs but I didn't buy Meek. I like it but I need more time with it. I only play like half. I can't listen to Meek for too long either.

I wonder was *****s crying over the books being cooked in 1995 when *****s was going diamond and **** lol. Or lemme guess back in the "golden era" everything was legit huh

Chill you're gonna bother some "woke" old heads in here

I think people caring about numbers just shows the era we're in.

Numbers are promoted, because of social media. Everyone likes it. Everyone is listening to it. So I need to listen to it too. I've had people tell me, have you heard _______ everyone is talking about it, I need to get it. Everyone wants to be included in pop culture discussion.

I could care less what an album sells, the most important part is the quality of the album. That's lost these days. Hell, you don't even need an album. You can do like OT Gensis and just do singles or just do mixtapes and have it available to stream and tour off that.

I just saw Meek's last album went platinum. With streaming it allows albums to have longer life cycles.

French's album will continue to get burn because of two singles. Those two singles will push the album because of streams.

It doesn't

I buy CD's when I can(Banner on iTunes) just to have it and to support. Most of the time I don't even open them.

And that was rumored. One thing is back in the day sells were based off what an album shipped. So you can ship a million, but 200,000 might be returned. And it's not like Nike where they go to outlets. Though you occasionally used to see CD's with a hole in them in pawn and discount shops.

People didn't care
