Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Listened to Doggystyle for the first time yesterday(I'll give it a 7/10)...but mainly knew him from the MTV show he had plus Drop It Like It's Hot was one of the biggest hip hop songs ever.

bruh
how old are u
and what lil country are u from

He's been on a great run since '09, just now he's starting to slow down but his peak years were either '13, or '15 like you mentioned
as great as his run
so far gone is STILL
his best project
and closet to a classic he has had
dude has underachieved
he's just coasting by
not trying hard
dude is like the rap version of gohan
all that potential
but doesn't wanna give us greatness :smh:

24 and USA. Mainly listened to East Coast rap...haven't delved into WC music outside of Pac. Snoop was one of my favorites growing up so I decided to give that album a try yesterday.

im confused
one of ur favorites
but ur just now listening to his best album???
and mainly listened to east coast rap???
east coast rap had been trash
well not trash
just not as prevalent during ur high school and middle school years
going by ur age
who was u listening to???
had to be old stuff

He was 0 when Doggystyle came out. Of course he's not THAT familiar with Snoop Dogg's prime. Busta Rhymes was one of my favorites as a kid around 96-99...and i probably couldn't quote you **** from any Leaders of the New School's songs.

yeah but
doggystyle
is one of hip hops
most anticipated and classic debuts
he said the FIRST time he's even listened to it
u mentioning busta though
u like that flip mode squad album????

Alright I'll just say starting off 50(GUnit), Cam(Dipset), and X(Ruff Ryders) were top 3 most listened to rappers growing up. NY(or East Coast rap music) was still dominating up until like 2009-2010(want to say this is when trap music starting to take off, not counting the ringtone era) and all I could go off from was singles because I didn't know about downloading/purchasing albums until like Senior Year in HS. Outside of those: Em, Nas, Snoop, Cassidy, Nelly, Jeezy, Ludacris, Wayne, ZRo, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire...a lot more I could list.

Add Lupe to that as well, his first 2 albums got a lot of spins from me as well.

oh yeah makes since
gunit and dipset
solid lineup u got of everyone else

yeah but his raps are trash
real talk
u heard 1 snoop song
u heard them all

you could say this about so many rappers tho.

sometimes artists are just good at providing a certain type of vibe rather than being diverse , i.e. drake, snoop and rap is really the only genre where having to cover x amount of topics and song types is a "rule"

pop/r&b acts can do the same thing for years and flourish bc its just enjoyable music

cant say that about pac
or nas
or big
they always give u something different
snoop is more or less the same

He mentioned it twice, but I also remember when Action Bronson was held in such high regard a little while ago. He had crazy hype behind him. I haven't followed him that close, but it seems like that spat with ghostface killa helped contribute to his decline

Episodes this week been some of the best. They need more of this and less of the gossip.

Action Bronson is the man!

His show is dope too. Shoutout Big Body Bes. Need to queue that podcast ep with Tax up one time. Classic. For the culture beloved
