Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

On another note....it's almost the 3 year anniversary of "Monster".....this set off a run for the ages. Arguably, Future's best body of work. Changed the sound of hip hop. Introduced new harmonies and flows. Metro Boomin's coming out party. 808 Mafia sirens introduction to the masses. Futures resurgence and the starting point of him going to another level musically and as a star.

album where 15 of the songs are about nonsense and then he made that one song I can't remember the name where he's seeming speaking about real **** and y'all like "SEE HE GOT SUBSTANCE TOO"

Sound like Drake stans too.

Even though he don't write all of it...I'd say Drake has displayed a pretty sound ability to rap. Around the time NWTS came out...he was in a pocket and killing everything.

Substance is subjective...but when speaking on technical ability...he showed it. The **** he's putting out now is lazy. He's catering more towards the flow driven crowd.

I think Future has a lot of substance in a good amount of songs. He doesn't have to be the most lyrical, but the way he puts words together, and says things in a certain tone, makes me really feel it and relate to it.

However, Wavy and others always give him TOO much credit for his substance IMO. Sometimes sounds like the internet comments that break down a XXXtentacion video or a Desiigner song and make them much deeper than they actually are.

I'm in between in this substance convo, because he really does have songs where it's like damn that hit me heavy, I really relate, but in those same songs, he'll just bring up the usual I hit your girl, I dumped her off to you, Margiela, AP, Rollie, VVS, etc etc etc, adderall, perky, etc. Don't get me wrong, a lot of these lines are fire and got you feeling all hyped. I tried putting my friend onto future and he like this dude just goes on the DARE website and reads off all the names of drugs/pharmaceuticals in his music.

But that's just how a lot of music is, and always has been especially in Rap. These dudes have short attention spans and start switching topics out of no where.

A good example of this is Lil Uzi Vert. The dude in his last album would talk about his feelings of breaking up with his girl and then in the next line talk about how he rocking rick owens or something. It's like they run out of things to say so they go back to what they are used to lol.

With all that said, Monster is somehow one of my favorite albums ever lol.

We supposed to not ever bring up Drake cuz he don't like it. Lol

Future, Uzi, Migos get brought up just as much and nobody complains.

The whole saying a serious line and then adding a line about the same ol bs is done for a reason.

Max B was phenomenal at it.

Son would talk about the pain of watching his mom do crack in front of him one line then jump into a line about how flossy his chain was.

All of that is done cause the listener has a short attention span and that's what they gravitate to. Future proved he could rap when he was going by "Meathead", obviously the style he uses now garners more success.
