Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Now could someone replicate the dynamic by dealing directly with the streaming services? Maybe. But even then there's still the problem of them charging you to upload and charging fans to listen. They still ****ing you.
I think that's still better than an artist putting in $$ for materials and labor for physicals that you gotta distribute it.

With so many media outlets, it definitely can be done as long as you have influence. Frank Ocean would be killing it if he wasn't anti-social, Chance kinda is that but it's obvious plant-things been on that man

Yeah there's definitely still room for that artist or artists who are Drake level of hype coming into the game and they go completely independent.

But hype and attention is so fleeting nowadays that you could be the **** one month and then by that fall it's someone new. Example: Tekashi (ignoring the Fed ****) vs. Blueface. I think Drake or someone at his level like Wiz, Ye, Wayne, etc. has to go completely independent and deal directly with streaming services to set the example.

However, I think that any service you go through to get on these streaming sites are gonna still take chunks out. TuneCore, EMPIRE, DistroKid, etc.

I think we're truly in the future when people can create a song and directly get compensated from the fans without any third party involvements. These streaming services serve no real purpose in terms of creating or making the content possible for them to be eating so much.

The music industry is free when there are no middle men and everyone is eating what they kill.

Who is actually really independent besides Tech N9ne, ICP, Esham? Was Macklemore really independent? Chance? Dolph?

Maybe Dolph.

PeeWee and a whole bunch of other Atlanta rappers who are known but not really known maybe?

I wonder if he got that from a Joe Budden podcast clip.

I wanna see Joe talk about that and Mal defend it. lmao.

They talked about it last week and said They talked about it at Dussepalooza and Jay response was “so what” lol

Also Mal said when they left Hov swore the pump it up freestyle wasn’t about Joe and he was just rapping.
