Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

It’s not to the same extent but I remember 50 saying he didn’t smoke but wanted to make High All the Time for the weedheads.

All biases aside, I never thought it was a big deal that Future said he quit drinking lean. This stems from me not believing he drank that much to begin with. Doing the heavy drugs as often as his music would lead someone to believe would have undoubtedly killed the ***** by now. The fact that we don’t have any footage of him out there zooted out of his mind let me know that it was a facade to some degree from the beginning.

For me, I suspend disbelief when it comes to most rap. These folks aren’t really selling or using drugs as heavily as they rap about, they’re not killing anyone, they’re not running through all these models (as is evidenced by the fact that they pass around the same 5 or 6 broads), none of that. At some point some of the onus has to be put on the listenership to discern what’s real and what’s wildly unbelievable.

You can’t get mad at Future for promoting a druggie image while still giving passes to cats tombout murder and slanging dope. All of that **** is detrimental to impressionable folks. The moral high ground is too
shaky on matters like this when it comes to rap.

Hov essentially said that they were only making about a thousand off each brick at that time, but that thousand was theirs and not their plug’s.

So even if him and his team were only out 92 thousand, that still doesn’t account for the fact that their plugs would still have been looking for the money they were owed per brick.

That’s like me lending you a hundred dollars and you put it in your wallet. Then you lose your wallet. Yeah, you lost your wallet and would still need to recoup that... but you still owe me that hunnid playboy. Idc about your wallet.

The bar was cool, but it still doesn’t explain how you lost 92 bricks and lived to tell the tale. Now if he were to say that they had to dig into their own personal stashes to repay their plugs and then continued doing business... cool. That’s more plausible than just saying we lost 92 bricks but we were in good with our connects so they looked over it.

I’m a jay fan but that makes no sense. If a dude lost 92 bricks (a brick was 21-27k) in those days, that means he or someone else (they all probably patched up they money to buy them) that means they lost over 2 million dollars as crew.

Ain’t no way everybody got out safe. Somebody had to get killed. Dudes ain’t playing about losing that kind of money in the 80s or 90s.

Cartels ain’t finna let you lose those kinds of dollars and no consequences.......

Beat me to it bro :lol

So let’s say that on the low end, the bricks were moving for $14K each. At 92 bricks, that’s $1.2M. Subtract the $92K that would have been Hov’s, you’re still looking at $1.11M that has to be accounted for.

I’m not saying I don’t believe the story, but there’s way more to it than saying “it was only $92k. Wowwwwwwwwwwww”

That $92K doesn’t speak to what you all owed the ****** in St. Thomas.

Lose 50 bricks in 1989 and somebody coming for your head, I can’t fathom the heat after losing 92

They warring about any minuscule thing when it comes to cocaine in Colombia and whatnot.

Living in South Florida, I’ve heard horror stories. My uncles telling me how they use to be scared to even drive down to Miami and cop work. People running off with money and getting they limbs and heads chopped off and mailed to their families. I guess Hov really is Hov :lol

Gotta give them their roses while they can smell em. :smokin

Remember moving to Atlanta around the time Hunger For More first dropped. Banks used to be killing the stitched up Pelle Pelle jackets. I wanted one bad as hell but my moms couldn’t get it because bread was low. Plus it didn’t get crazy cold in the A like it did in NY so it would’ve ultimately been a waste of $300 but still.

And he helped a 14 or 15 year old me secure the box.

Salute to the god. :smokin

I don't listen to music and expect anybody to rap exactly they life so I don't care.
I think it's odd to hold rappers to the responsibility to live what they rap when they rap violence, drugs, etc but when they do all of that they stupid for putting it in a song. I look at music the same way I see movies, it's just entertainment. I don't expect Denzel to be able to do Equalizer quality fighting so I'm not gonna expect a rapper to drink/smoke/pop pills like they rap.

We gon look down on Drake when he rap about how he gon ride around Calabasas looking to fight somebody or calling some shooters too?

Rotten Apple’s underrated.

I remember skipping school to go to this chick’s house who stayed about two cities over. I met her randomly as hell in a walmart, I had on the black and citrus 7s so she didn’t stand a chance. :smokin

Id gotten my first car (a 97’ Buick LeSabre  :smokin) so I drove out to her house blasting Rotten Apple. Specifically “You know the deal” with Banks and Rakim. I’m over there all day and didn’t get not no where near the box. I was tight on the ride home.
