Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

That cant really apply to the Future/Kendrick argument, while Nas might have been the superior lyricist Jay was still in the 1 percent when to came to bars. Weren't too many dudes on the mainstream touching his pen game. Period

This isn't true, because most people don't even understand what Jay is saying the majority of the time because they don't listen to lyrics.

Nas is more direct and to the point

Where as Jay uses double and triple entendres and similes and metaphors

It doesn't mean one is a better lyricist, it's what you prefer.

He needs to have a variety of producers on his next album. He's holding himself back.
Agree'd, producing your own **** is cool and all that (saves money too) but that **** starts sounding stale after a while. He needs to switch it up because he still kills most of the features he does on other peoples production. The few he does anyway

Bunz is a strong term, your opinion though and your entitled to it. His fanbase is far too large to say he's not top tier in my opinion, as a traditional rapper of course. His album did come out last December though, are we judging the top class by years or just overall?

Consensus on that album is that is was subpar. And I said I don't think he belongs on the list anymore. Not that he once didn't.

You didnt interpret the word "might", I never flat out said Nas was better nor thats what I preferred. I implied it was debatable, which is why their both so damn legendary in the first place

Speaking of French. How does this dude get a pass for consistently being garbage and having his features carry him to success...

Cause his mixtapes are dope. His albums are complete dumpster fires.

Big Sean too lyrical for Metro Boomin' :lol :lol I'm not interested in the slightest of hearing a Big Sean/Metro collab, and it ain't cause of Metro.

I'm not sure what Sean's issue is, but for some reason he has a tendency to say corny **** at a much higher rate than his peers. It really hurts him

The posts in here make it seem like Cole is complete trash and Kendrick is a washed up has-been. Like their last albums got no attention from the major outlets nor did they sell well.

His problem is that he tries to hard to make a good record. He just needs to rap. When he's just rapping, he's solid. When Paradise came out, folks was hype.

Wale's last album is the worst project of his career and any of the dudes mentioned. This is coming from a Wale fan I'm not saying it just to bash him.

I said "might", meaning its debatable. There both in my top 2 and some of the best to ever do it.

I do think it’s his worst album but he still has like 3-4 other SOLID - GREAT albums... Cole has like 2 great ones

J cole can sell out arenas by himself....wale? not so much.

True lol I was talking strictly albums

Doesn't make his music any better

ticket sales is one thing imma put my foot down on as far as being subjective with music quality.. he may not your cup of tea, and personally i think he's always been poor man's Nas, but if Cole consistently selling out arenas, da popular consensus is his music is good.

J Cole calatogue is definitely the worst out of

Drake
Wale
Kendrick
Cole is hands down the most disappointing of the bunch. Every project after FNL. Dont throw his sales figures at me.
Post from a few months ago. outside of neighbors, 4 your eyes did not absolutely nothing to change this

All 3 albums have been disappointing tbh, especially looking at almost every guest verse/loosie he's dropped in that time period.

Get Free
Can't Knock The Hustle
Warm Enough
Cold Blood
Made Bail
Pray
Jermaine's Interlude
Lit
The Cure
Villmatic
Cole Summer
Etc etc etc

ALL are flat out better than 99% of everything he's spit on allllll 3 of his albums. annoying as a fan. He's clearly a better rapper than he was on FNL & Warm Up, when again, he was writing Beautiful Bliss & Star is Born verses, but it just hasn't made it on to his albums for some reason.

I'm glad his star has kept ascending so he doesn't have to blatantly pander to the radio anymore, so I'm hoping for the best with these 10 songs. But his albums have NOT delivered at all to me.

Cole had ****** hyped when he dropped those 2 songs before 4YEO...only to drop 4YEO

Now story wise it was pretty cohesive and I “got” the theme...but theres no way you’ll flourish setting your album up like that then drop that kinda project

Everyone thought he was about to go at rappers

Hate when people just come up with statements out of the blue becauss of disagreements. Nobody said Cole was trash.
