Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

According to Joe, you’re fighting the quiet storm if you don’t maintain the same level of reverence as you did 12 years ago when your debut album dropped.

This ***** be talking just to be talking, man.

After listening to Joe's argument and yea, they gotta stop having deeper discussions about southern artists

Joe just be talking to talk sometimes, son went from “quality of music” to Gucci being relevant

Joe really a goof majority of the time

Nah man. He was just loud and confident so it sounded like he was kicking knowledge.

A vet like Jeezy with a good core fan base isn't fighting a quiet storm. Period. It's not like he's out here fighting for relevance hopping on every trend. He's doing his own thing.

He also implied that Jeezy HAD to drop an album because his business wasn't right outside of music. That's a ridiculous assumption. Joe's been fake retired for like a year and he's acting like he's above music now. And he's acting like he knows about Jeezys financials.

You know he's wrong when Akademiks has him backpedaling when he's not the quickest thinker out there.

I knew Joe was gonna be super wrong when he started the conversation out saying it's artists dudes don't want to be honest about and we all see him snob gobblin' Em anytime his name is brought up. Joe too loud to be a hypocrite

Who the hell is Ralo? and his voice to light to be speakin so freely about Jeezy not being "right" lol

Joe was all over the place with his Jeezy comments.

Jeezy won the longevity game.10 years since his debut and he still got peoples attention, even if the mainstream has shrunk for him. Who hasnt it shrunk for? Thats BS to call Jeezy out like he on an island by himself.

The Gucci comparison is unfair. Think about why Gucci is "popping"...he was gone for years and has a reason to be all over the place.

And I was just about to peep some of his stuff. Thanks for saving me some time

Don’t sleep on em’ my g. Son’s on one.

One of my biggest gripes with the show is how they speak on Southern acts when it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the hosts don’t really check for those cats like that.

Joe: This is trash. It’s trash. They’re not playing this is the streets. This isn’t playing in the clubs.

Ak: You don’t go to the clubs, you said you stay in the house.

Joe: *eyebrow inflection* You’re missing my ******* point, I’m not talking to this *****. Back to you Pinky.

Pretty much. The whole south is depending on Ak to defend them against Joe's odd way of showing how much he LOOOOOOOOVES our artists
It's def an opening for a growing respectable music podcast person to be featured via FaceTime or something to discuss southern artists. They have a Jeezy topic coming up call up so-and-so and have them go back and forth with them for a bit. Smooth out the rough cuts in editing and upload the vid

I don't understand Joe callin Ak a p**** just cause he said he was looking forward to Jeezy new album. I've never been a huge Jeezy fan but he's still a pretty respected artist in hiphop. I havent heard too much chatter of him falling off or anything. Joe just be putting out false narratives to make the show interesting. He'll regret it when he gets confronted by Jeezy's boys at next years BET Awards

***** so scared to call Eminem wack

Watching Joyner Lucas...stutter and stammer while trying to explain why he thought walking on water was “dope” was hilarious.

***** literally said the record was dope because Eminem can rap and he’s expressing how he feels  :smh:

Bruh....

Em Stan’s

I remember bruh being geeked as hell just off the fact that Em knew who he was. You can tell he inspired a lot of what he does tho w the dual perspective tracks etc

This is where i gotta pull back on the "they hating on the South narrative" Joe speaking on Jeezy yesterday is the exact same narrative a lot off young ****** in the south share on Jeezy. I know this because i have been arguing against that narrative agianst cats from the south on this very site.

Dudes been claiming Jeezy is washed on here for years, saying how the city don't support himlike they do blah blah blah, he ain't an A&R like Gucci, new generation ain't really checking for him like that etc etc. I don't agree with it & never have.

But i'll be damned if i sit here & try & paint it as some kind of east coast bias, because Joe harped on the rumblings that people in the south started. Because up here in NYC Outside of Wayne & Outcast Jeezy is probably the most well liked southern artist of the 00's forward

Now I'm not saying that they are hating on the south but they are out of touch when it comes to southern artists.
The points that Joe was making that were true they, to me, were exaggerated. I haven't heard many people say he's washed. I've heard that his last album was decent but def not as hot as he needed it to be.

His critique of Miguel was off IMO. I have a hard time believing that you’re actually listening to these records in their entirety when the criticism you cite of one artist isn’t extended to another artist... especially when you you claim to “love” both.

On one hand, fam said that Miguel reached his peak with Kaleidoscope Dream, and that dude doesn’t seem like an RnB artist because of the other genres he incorporates in the music. Meanwhile dude has been on the podcast saying The Weeknd put out his favorite RNB project of last year. Weeknd hasn’t been producing RnB albums in about 4 years. :lol

Son’s entitled to his opinions, as all this stuff is subjective. But there are madd inconsistencies in the stuff he says.

I agree that this album isn't as good as KD and that it's "trash" compared to it. This album is great at best and that's with a little bit of charity.
It didn't have any standout tracks that warranted an instant replay but Pineapple Skies, Sky Walker, and Harem were really good to me.

I agree that Miguel MAY have passed his prime, but that may be more to experimenting with his sounds than no longer having the talent.

Em Stan’s

Em Stan’s are ridiculous. The **** been washed for over a decade...and been making corny pop anthems for god knows how long....

Yet dudes like Joyner Lucas don’t understand why people are looking at the track list funny considering the first single and ems tracklist .

We bout to get a whole album of this...with an occasional gem here or there.

God, this is terrible . He needs his own category for this type of ****. No wonder he outta touch.

Miguel's album is trash and the sound he's been doing is trash. New album trash, his previous album was trash. Miguel cold as ice out here. That Travis Scott feature was so wack. That was a desperation move.

I loved The Weeknd's album. That was my favorite album of his since probably House of Balloons. I liked Kiss Land a lot but I would probably take Starboy over it. I felt like a lot of that album was R&B.

Joe wasn't wrong about Jeezy. I think some of y'all just don't like negative **** being said about your favorite artists. Go dig through the Jeezy threads on NT. They've been saying Jeey cold for years now. This ain't new.

But I agree about Joe and the south. He doesn't listen to a lot of southern artists. I don't like him talking about southern artists and I don't like Ak or Nebraska talking about rap before 2005.

I remember when Jeezy and Ross was beefin' and Ross was throwin' shots as much as he possibly could and folks was sayin' Jeezy was done. Then Jeezy dropped his album sold 200k first week and Ross had to push his back a number of times.

Although that was a long time ago, for that I won't count Jeezy out. Don't dig deeper than I disagree with what Joe said. This ain't no "Jeezy my guy so don't say nothing bad about him" it's as simple as, I disagree.

You talking about when 103 dropped? That was a hard album, quality music is gonna sell. I bought that CD and I bought Church In These Streets. I think Trap or Die 3 sold off the name Trap or Die. I guess we'll see what the new album does. I don't think it'll be massive flop but I don't think it'll do his usual numbers.

I think some of ya'll let being fans of someone prevent ya'll from being objective. Joe was definitely acting like a weirdo in the episode until Miguel came up :lol . But the Jeezy and Gucci comparison wasn't far off. And Jeezy is definitely cold mainstream wise. Last time he was out there heavy was on the YG my ***** track. Nobody is saying he can't strike hot with this new project or he's washed.
