Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I think dead prez, Talib/Mos Def, Little Brother, The Roots were above underground rap. They were everybody's go to to show they listened to some lyrical rap. Like Common.

It's like how Lupe started being that person.

I don't just like garbage rap, I like Black Star too like they wanted a cookie.

Underground to me is more like your Def Jux, Babygrande, Fat Beats type labels....with your Cannibal Ox, Non-Phixon, Murs, Company Flow, Apathy, Jedi Mind Tricks, Blu & Exile, C Rayz Walz...

Doom, Company Flow and Rawkus pretty much popularized that lane.

Some artist exist in and out of that plane, Cormega and Sean Price(RIP) got a revival by embracing it. Sort of like how Styles has.

and Aesop Rock ain't that good. Son was trying to sound in touch. That was some pandering politician bull****. It's why I have a love hate relationship with duke over the years, I never felt dude was genuine.

Back when that down south **** was popping I was pretty much only listening to underground hip hop. I used to buy mad **** off undegroundhiphop and hiphopsite.com
