Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

People from Atlanta must really not like JD cause he doesn't get the proper respect from them IMO. He kicked down the doors for everyone when it comes to R&B/hip hop there.

Matter of fact, his accomplishments for the culture as a whole seems to be brushed off.

Not signing some of ATLs top acts around the late 90s and early 2000s hurt him, though it worked out for the better for some of those artist. The acts he did sign didn’t have long runs. What he did with the Franchize Boyz wasn’t cool. Though they weren’t going anywhere outside of ATL, they still were in a position to make money locally. Dude saw the cash grab and made the best of it for himself. What y’all heard on the album was not the sound that made them popular in the city. Simply put, he has Puff energy.

Im guessing jd dont get cred in atl or even in the south on a more broad scale, bc his production never really had a southern bounce to it.

That would be the one that would do it for u 😒

So the 90s for almost anybody. Especially new acts. Everybody rapping on what sounded like east coast beats but sounding like they from another region.

I think it's because he always had niche artist and R&B

Kriss Kross, Da Brat, Bow Wow. They catered to certain demographics.

He never had a Biggie or Snoop. He needed a TI or Jeezy to solidify him.
