Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

http://www.hiphopoverload.com/joe-b...-they-only-offered-him-200000-so-he-resigned/

this ***** drunk as hell to be asking for 5 million a year for an ONLINE YOUTUBE SHOW that probably wont even see that revenue per year.

Only way that makes sense is if they were about to go to real television and even then its premature considering we dont know how this would do legitimately ratings wise and ad wise.

but then again im a broke college student talking **** on niketalk so what do i know about negotiating. reminds me of what irv gotti said about jay z and the “heat check” story. someone wanted him to do a soundtrack and he yelled out some ridiculous number and acted like he was finna walk away and they bit bc of his confidence but he told Irv deep down he didnt think they were gonna bite. Irv said he did that w/ Def Jam and it worked when he was getting like 200k a track or some ****. Maybe Joe know what he doing.

We don't know the exact revenue for that show so we can't comment if the ask is ridiculous yet . I saw some were talking about Jake Paul and how that for every 1m views you make 10k. Not true for everybody. That could be a base pay but it all depends on a few factors such as interaction with the ads and how long ads play. For ES videos, you can't even skip the 30 second ad. So for every video to get over 300k, and for the add to play the entire duration, they making bread from that . Even with google pocketing some of that

I dont' think so. After seeing the success of ES, they'll have plenty of solid options to replace Joe, and the brand of ES has brilliant built and billed itself as an essential part of culture.

It'll be rough at first w/whoever they choose to replace joe with, but I think the person complex replaces joe with will work, and after a couple viral moments it'll hit.

The overarching reason as to why I don't think ES will tank is because they're literally filling a void that's 100% absent. There's never been a first take styled show for Hip-Hop and culture, they're filling a need.

We already got used to the chemistry and any new permanent host will either be looked at as a Joe imitation (Lord Jamar or some ****) or too tame and boring compared to Joe (the Friday episodes nobody watches).

Ak and Nadeska would be smart to leave with Joe and take the show to a real network. But if they keep things the way they are sans Joe, they’d be better off having a new guest host every week.

I doubt he asked for 5 mil, just doesn’t sound realistic. If he is, I’m not mad at him. He created the show and he’s the star of the show.

200K isn’t a lot though, not mad at him leaving that.

He did always y’all cant afford me and I don’t make enough and blah blah

How do y’all know about Montell’s publishing? Did he say that recently? I know a lot of these artists go to court and get it back because they didn’t know better and basically claim the label took advantage of someone unfairly. The artist usually wins now.

5 M's? :lol No way.

If true he wanted out then, he said on his podcast a while back he told Mona he wanted a few m's for l&hh, knowing they'd say no...but if by chance they did then he'd do it. :lol

People see that figure and stay stuck on that . You can ask that whatever and be content with a lower offer. What was he supposed to ask for? 500k. Nah you start high and then you negotiate. 200k is a wild offer

It's like when fans get mad at athletes for asking for a certain amount. The worst they can do is say no. Then you talk and come to an agreement.

YouTube takes 40 to 50 off top on ads so 5 million for a season is crazy. He prolly wanted out theres alot more money when you make your own platform like Joe Rogan or adam carolla .

we gon gloss over Joe saying ak aint resign either? i think he deleted the tweet.

they might as well take this to BET or MTV. Does Viacom own both still? Would be big to have it syndicated across MTV, BET and VH1.

They make close to half mill views every show and a 30 second ad that they get money from couple that with people who may click the ad. Even with Google taking from that that's still plenty money.

yeah thats true and I guess this is 2007 where the show money and social media hustle to sustain you regardless wasnt there.

Montell took an L if he didnt get 7 figures for How We Do It. Lowkey might be worth 8 in the long, long, long run...

He did one of those behind the music things with TV One saying how he sold the publishing to all his records including This is how we do it. It's crazy

oh wow that ***** drunk

why the **** would you do that

i see that **** in commercials all the time

How you get finessed into selling the rights to ALL your work. I can understand a single or two MAYBE. But your whole catalog?

Also I guess this is it for me with the show. Whoo Kid does not entertain me and I'm not tuning in to hear about what lil pump or Tay K is up to.

I’d bet Montell is fighting that **** now and will most likely get it back. He basically got robbed, courts side with the artist for these cases often now. Which is real dope.

Damn y'all serious about Montell? :smh: I was just applauding this ***** in the barbershop a few weeks ago because, This is How we do it was played in like 3 diff commercials while I was in there. That's sad. Legit figured he was super caking.

That song is going to be playing forever. Same as Ginuwine Pony, thankfully Ginuwine still owns a large piece of that.

Show wouldn't work on those networks. They would water it down. They would never have any real talk about the business or artist because the networks want to protect relationships. Even Joe and AK don't talk bad about a few people, imagine a big network telling whoever the hosts is "you can't say this, can't that". Show would be boring.

Ak COULD try stepping up, upping his quality/platform, and can possibly lead the show...interesting to see how this plays out
