He wasn’t bad, but he’s gotten exponentially better. Being locked in with a like Nas will do that. Think of all the people he’s been locked in with, it would be hard not to sharpen your sword alongside them.
I remember listening to one of his mixtapes years ago and I think his biggest problem is he has no identity or personality on the mic. He's very forgettable and he also seems influenced who he's around at the time, a Kanye, a Cudi...
That's why I think he works with features, like with Dom.
but if you hear a song of his solo you don't instantly know it's him. That's what separates many rappers. Ross is easily identifiable. Cole, Kendrick...
