Ska its been going on long enough...time to lock....

I think it'd be a great deal for the Suns.

They couldn't win with that bunch for the past two three four years or whatever, and now you get a big expiring contract in Marbury.

When does Shaq's contract end?

They could get some serious cap room in the next year or two, and build a supporting cast around Amare.

Shaq is two more years I think. So in terms of cap space, they would need to wait two years, by then Amare is nearing 30 with a surgically repaired knee. That leaves VERY little margin for error with any roster moves they make. That team better be iron clad in two years, because if they need another 2 or 3 toget it right with Amare as the main peice, forget it. You're talking about potentially 4 to 5 years if they are just going to wait for expiring deals. Ican't see that strategy working.

Nets Want Melo

Thinking big, the Nets have had exploratory conversations with Denver about Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby, league sources said. Vandeweghe traded for Camby and drafted Anthony in Denver. Nothing is imminent. The Nuggets are not committed to moving Anthony yet. But after his recent legal troubles plus five straight first-round losses, they are listening to offers for their players. Bergen Record

Having said that, the Nets have assets to do something: three draft picks, Keith Van Horn's contract, young players Marcus Williams, Sean Williams, Josh Boone, Richard Jefferson coming off his best statistical season, Nenad Krstic's contract that they can use in a sign-and-trade and one $3.3 million trade exception from the Jason Kidd deal. (It was two, but the league changed it.) Bergen Record

Adding a major piece like an Anthony would do that. The Nets may not have enough to get him, but they have to be aggressively pursue moves this off-season. Returning the same team would be a big mistake. Bergen Record
Ron Artest to the mavs...maybe..

While Ron Artest's future remains unknown, it was made clear this week that they could have a potential trade partner in Dallas. In a Dallas debut interview on the local ESPN affiliate (Galloway and Co. show), new Mavericks coach and former Indiana coach Rick Carlisle gave a Marv Albert-like "Yes!" when asked if he would coach the 28-year-old Artest again. Sacramento Bee

The Mavs, of course, just so happen to have a talented 28-year-old small forward of their own who could fit quite nicely in a Kings uniform. Josh Howard, who has two years and approximately $20 million left on his deal with a team option for a third season, is coming off a horrendous season-ending series against New Orleans that also included his admission as a pot-smoker. Sacramento Bee

If Artest doesn't opt out, the Kings can trade him starting in July. If he does opt out, then he could obviously sign with Dallas as a free agent. As for what he might do, I've been polling people within the organization and around the league for the last week or so and the consensus remains that there is no consensus. Strangely, one of the few indicators could involve the Monarchs. Sacramento Bee
Dallas Mavericks notes..

The changes, they are a-coming for the Dallas Mavericks. One of the first may include overtures to center DeSagana Diop, who was traded in February to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd deal. Diop is a free agent and has already said in New Jersey that the Mavericks and Nets are the two teams on his radar. If the Mavericks feel he fits into their future, they will have a good chance to sign the free-agent 7-footer. Dallas Morning News

I think everybody's name will come up. Everybody's name should come up. The playoff scars on this team are so deep, the Mavericks can't go into another post-season with the same core. And I don't think they can nibble around the edges, either. It's hard to believe that Howard, Terry, Erick Dampier and Jerry Stackhouse will all return next season. Dallas Morning News

At the moment, it's my belief that Josh Howard is the most likely to be moved. The Mavericks are taking a different stance in public. But don't be fooled. There is a high level of frustration with him among management and some of his teammates. As for Nowitzki and Howard being one of the better forward tandems in the league, that was the case the previous two seasons. Not this one. Howard's best games came early in the year when Nowitzki struggled and late in the season when Nowitzki was out. He didn't complement or play off of Nowitzki the way he had in previous seasons. That's a concern. Dallas Morning News

The Mavericks have only eight players under contract next season at $80.446 million. That's close to $25 million over the projected salary cap, meaning the club will really be handcuffed financially. The team does have the mid-level exception of $5.3 million to play with and can offer a all of the minimum contracts they want. Those usually don't entice anyone good. Dallas Morning News
The Orlando Magic have interest in Corey Maggette

The Magic could have interest in Los Angeles Clippers guard Corey Maggette or Golden State's Mickael Pietrus in free agency. Maggette would have to first opt out of his contract. Restricted free agents Josh Childress and Luol Deng also could appeal to the Magic. Florida Today

As for disgruntled shooting guard J.J. Redick, Smith said he has no plans of trading him -- for now. Redick has played very little in his first two NBA seasons and asked for a trade midway through last season. For now, he is an insurance policy in case the Magic lose Evans, Dooling or Bogans. Florida Today

Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick expects to return next season, but he didn't back off his request to be traded if he can't find playing time. Redick, the club's 2006 first-round pick out of Duke who has played sparingly, requested in early January that the Magic deal him. "I want to play. There were a lot of things that were said last summer and in the preseason, you know, and I thought I was going to play. It didn't happen," Redick said. Orlando Sentinel

Mo Evans made $1.7 million last season, but will be looking for something closer to starter's money. His agent, Roger Montgomery, told the Sentinel that his client expects to shop around when the free-agency courting period begins July 1. "I really enjoyed playing here," he said. Orlando Sentinel

Back-up point guards Keyon Dooling and Carlos Arroyo are unrestricted free agents. Dooling, who made $3.5 million last season, has a better chance of returning than Arroyo, who hardly played in the postseason. Orlando Sentinel

NY Knicks Notes...

Donnie Walsh wanted him to scout two lottery possibilities in Danilo Gallinari and Nicolas Batum. It was Thomas' first assignment since being fired as head coach April 18, two days after the season, and reassigned to a role with no title. Walsh said he would seek his advice, and The Post reported the former Knicks president/coach likely would have no office. NY Post

If the Knicks can't get Derrick Rose, there isn't another pure point guard worthy of a top 8 selection and hence, Stephon Marbury likely would play out the final year of his contract. Walsh said he likely will not trade Marbury's $21 million pact because he doesn't want to get back any contracts past 2010, which shoots down the theory the Knicks would want Phoenix favorites Boris Diaw or Leandro Barbosa. NY Post

If the Knicks finish that high they will likely select Memphis point guard Derrick Rose and in that case team president Donnie Walsh will try to trade Marbury or perhaps even release him. If they fail to draft a point guard and can't swing a trade for one, Marbury could survive one final season which wouldn't be the worst thing either. NY Daily News

David Lee is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and could become a restricted free agent next summer. This is usually the time teams try to lock up their young players so as to avoid having to contend with offer sheets from other teams. Nate Robinson is also heading into his final year before restricted free agency. NY Newsday

While Nate Robinson will make $2,020,179 next season, Lee will make $1,788,003, which is the fourth-lowest on the current payroll. By rule the Knicks only need to make one-year commitments to both restricted free agents to keep them, but that only works if no other NBA team attempts to sign the player to an offer sheet. The Knicks obviously have the resources to match any offer, but, considering Donnie Walsh's goal to not compromise his salary-cap situation for the summer of 2010, it is not a given the Knicks will want to make a long-term commitment to either young player. NY Newsday

There is little doubt that Walsh will try to move Zach Randolph, who has a hefty contract that maxes out at $17.1 million in 2010-11. That could create room for Lee or it could result in Lee being part of the package to sweeten the deal. NY Newsday

As per ESPN First Take..

Kurt Rambis could be the coach of the suns. He is "high" on their list.

i've been saying it for the past season or so, Lee is going to have to be traded in order to unload these contracts. And I have no problem letting Lee goif it means clearing out the cap space and getting a nice mid to late first rounder.

Hmm...idk
I think Deng is the best player of the bunch that we are lookin at, but I think Maggette would fit in best, being that he's more of a pure shooting guard. But Deng is a beast.
Idk what we're trying to run, 1 pg, 3 sf's and 1 center?
I was thinking maybe we'd go after a pf or something and just move Hedo or Shard to sg. We'll see how this works out

Wait, what?

Melo and Bron are close. Ya never know.

Hell, if they smart, they take less money, move Bron to the 2, sign Wade to be the PG, and go after Bosh to be the 4, they could take matters into their ownhands and say their draft class the best ever. Win 1 chip, will = 4.

I'm just thinkin you'd have to build around one or the other...can't see them together...at least at this point of their careers.

Carmelo to New Jersey aint happening. I dont see how that kind of trade would help either team. Jefferson + Williams + 2 draft picks wouldn't be enoughand even if it happened it would still leave the Nuggets fighting for a playoff spot.

Carmelo+Vince+D. Harris still leaves the Nets without a front court and they probably wouldn't finish higher than 4th in the East.

I think Marcus Camby is most likely to be traded, his value is high and the Nuggets could roll the dice on K-Mart and Nene being healthy.

I hope it doesn't happen.

That would be a good look but for some reason I don't think that BD will be in GS next season.

Notice that Walsh says he won't trade Marbury if the contracts coming back to the Knicks do not expire after 2010. Guess who expires in 2010 that reallyreally likes D'Antoni?

I don't know who the Suns would get back, but it would start with the Knicks 2008 #1.

Don't say that...how could anyone wana go to NY.

But seriously, that's what I've been saying...Walsh has a plan and that plan is LeBron.

who is to say lebron wants to play for the knicks? i look at what the bulls did a few years ago and had all that cap room expecting to get big name free agentsand got NO ONE. u cant throw all your eggs in one basket hoping that someone in 2 YEARS will sign with u

Thing is, with this team they can plan that way...

You need to let all these contracts run out...and then see if LeBron would wana come...and I think he would.

Even if he doesn't there still is cap space and the 2 lotto picks we'll have from the next 2 seasons....and I'll take that over the currentsituation. There will be room to improve.
