Miami Heat: We are continuing to hear that if the Bulls draft Derrick Rose with the No. 1 pick (which is looking more and more likely) they'll try to move the No. 2 pick for either a draft prospect like O.J. Mayo or a veteran point guard like T.J. Ford or Kirk Hinrich.
Of course, the Heat will want more than just a straight swap for giving up such a coveted pick. With so many teams in pursuit of a scoring forward like Michael Beasley, the Heat could really net a starter and a high pick or solid prospect. They could change their mind after Beasley comes in for workouts, but right now it's looking less likely that they'll draft at No. 2.
Michael Rosenberg of the Free Press writes that Chauncey is the most likely Pistons to be traded.
June 4, Detroit Free Press: Last summer, the Pistons invested up to $60.5 million in Mr. Big Shot. So why is he the most likely to go? A few reasons.
Dumars talked Tuesday about a lack of urgency in his players. Billups is as responsible for that as anybody. Dumars surely wants a renewed emphasis on defense, and Billups is the weakest defender among starters.
Billups is most likely to go because teams covet point guards more than other positions, and the Pistons have two.
The Pistons believe Rodney Stuckey can be an elite point guard -- sooner rather than later. Billups, meanwhile, is still an All-Star-caliber player. Anybody with a young roster and a hole at point guard would have to be interested in him.
So, with Joe Dumars looking to break up the current core of the Pistons, and Rosenberg's good reasoning about Chauncey being the most likely Starter traded, could some kind of deal sending Billups to Miami for the #2 overall pick be worked out?
If possible, the trade would look something like this: Detroit sends to Miami PG Chauncey Billups and PF Jason Maxiell and recieves Miami's first-round draft pick(#2 overall/Beasley), Marcus Banks and Mark Blount.
According to Chad Ford, several other teams are also looking to deal their first-round picks. For Piston fans, this could be the most exciting time leading up to the draft since 2003 when the Pistons took Darko Milicic with the #2 overall pick.
