Started keto yesterday. I'm thinking it won't be too difficult since I'm not a carb lover.

I have a few questions for those who have completed keto successfully. I like to drink black coffee in the morning (only 1 cup). I've seem different opinions about how caffeine can throw you out of ketosis. What are your experiences? Outside of black coffee, I drink a ton of water and nothing else outside of whey post workout .

BWood, you doing steady state or a HIIT routine?


My new cardio routine:

Quarter mile on the treadmill at a high speed

Hop off immediately following the quarter mile to do accessory exercises and misc (up downs, jump rope) usually 3-4 exercises.

Then hop back onto the treadmill to run another quarter mile at high speed.

Once I have completed this cycle I have done each exercise 4 times, and have completed a mile at high speed.

Thanks. Been toying with the idea of fasted cardio too but don't want to hinder my goal of bulking. I assume it'll help with fat burning and not effect gains too much if I limit it to three times a week or so. Just didn't know whether to do steady state or some high intensity.
 
You think the same benefits can be made with steady state fasted cardio?

I dont do much HIIT but all my cardio is done fast in the early morning. 

Regardless of the cardio, the idea is to roll the fasting from rest into the workout pulling the fat for fuel.
 
I tried that roll out of bed and work out stuff a couple years back, well actually I had no choice because my days were too busy, and I hated it.

Felt like throwing up every time. My coordination was also "lacking" :lol
Did it for about a semester (4 months I think)

Yeah i can actually manage through the empty stomach cramps but i feel like i have no energy midway through and start to lack on my form
 
Ive never seen much scientific evidence that fasted cardio uses stored fat for energy. The science just doesnt add up.

Not sure if real science, but doesn't it also break down muscle unless you sip on BCAAs, or something? That's what I heard/read somewhere.

I was always under the impression that the body only burn fat during extended periods of exercise so if you're full or not does t really change that. I also don't see how working out hungry is a good idea. Actually sounds counterproductive

Working out fasted is just something you need to get used to. Drink a cup of water and you should be good to go. Pretty sure it's usually psychological.
 
Since I've started crossfit, the longest I've gone without working out has been 4 days max. Now it's been 8 days since I've done anything due to the Vegas trip.

I got home 3 days ago, but I've spent all my free time sleeping or napping.

I think I should be good to workout tomorrow. That first day after an extended break always sucks =/

I'm no scientist but I think it would only break down muscle if you were in a caloric deficit and doing it over an extended period of time.
 
I can sit here and post different studies all day long, and you could post studies pointing in the opposite direction.

Regardless of the situation there is always going to be something debunking it or proving it.

Do what gets you results.

Everyone is different - play and toy around with any and everything.
 
just had the quest protein chips (cheddar and sour cream) 

not very good, terrible after taste.  Still have to try BBQ and sea salt.

This Super HD is intriguing...I want to try it, will it compromise my SL 5x5 routine though?

regarding super hd, do you take it pre workout? pro workout?
 
I can sit here and post different studies all day long, and you could post studies pointing in the opposite direction.

Regardless of the situation there is always going to be something debunking it or proving it.

Do what gets you results.

Everyone is different - play and toy around with any and everything.

While I do agree that people should do what gets them the results they want, but whats wrong with having an actual discussion about it?

This applies to so many other topics, not just this one, but the "everyone is different" phrase is such a cop-out and excuse people use to justify what theyre doing. Everyone is different, yes, but there are certain things that are common among everyone and you just cant fall back onto the safety net of "people are different"

Whats so wrong with having an intellectual conversation about the topic. I dont see a reason to automatically dismiss something because there are studies inf avor of each side.

Not taking a shot either, I just dont see a point in ignoring the topic because there are studies on both sides of the fence.
 
I love fasted cardio/workouts. I'm usually in the gym 30-45 minutes after waking up. Can't eat that soon, but I'm hungry as **** after I'm done working out. Different strokes for different folks, but it works for me.

I'am choosing to not waste my time on it.

I'am too busy with work to post studies.

I do what works for me, and if it happens to do so for the next person then so be it.

I don't think fasted cardio will destroy muscle.

Also I don't think taking OTC pain meds affects muscle growth either.

Whats the verdict for those 2?
 
There's studies about the OTC pain killers affecting protein synthesis however... I've told you what to Google to find them.

Are there other studies pointing in the other direction? Maybe.
