Stephen A. Smith Wylin

Right?!?! I mean, all things considered, if she is just doing NBA Today for ESPN and some game stuff 2-3X per week, is she "working" 8 hours per day? Not trying to disrepect her or her occupation, I am just wondering how much time she puts in working which brings me to my next point...

I don't know about benefits (medical, health, dental, 401K, etc.) but I am damn near certain that the perks have to be on point. Gets to travel all across the country for games while being stationed in LA or NYC. Probably gets flight upgrades (either paid for by ESPN or with her own status that she has built up through her work travel). Probably stays at nice hotels with the same comment about flights (upgrades). All her expenses are paid on the road with her corporate card, probably gets to expense "work dinners" with other insiders and players. Then on top of that she gets access to just about every player, team and thing related to the NBA. Gets her face out there and ends up in state farm ads and probably others.

So it's not ALL bad but sub-$100K still seems extremely low. I really just want to guess that was old data

Productions meetings and travel count.

If a report came out saying Malcom Brogdon stole a candy from the store when he was 6, Malika would be announcing it every chance she gets. Let Gordon Hayward smack his wife and it will be crickets.

She be bringing up **** from 10+ years ago that has nothing to do with present day. I'm not buying that she reading from a script. The way she be tryna talk down and put dudes in a awkward position it's clear what she about.

When Adrian Payne passed away and she brought up some allegation he had from years ago. Nothing to do with nothing. Before the capes come in I don't care if her man is white or blue, black, purple.

Thanks for bringing these back up. I forgot about the Meyers Leonard incident. Although I don’t know what she said in air (or if she was hosting NBA Today at the time) but broke the news for EPSN on Twitter and tweeted about it quite a bit

She also thoroughly reported about Sarver as evidenced here

She did go off regarding the Ime situation but IIRC that was while on First Take with SAS which was unscripted and more “emotional” or “herself” or whatever whatever you want to call it versus the other situations you pointed out where she was reading off of a teleprompter or a script that she was given.

So yeah, it seems like ESPN is in the business of discussing all of players transgressions via Twitter and television and Malika just happens to be the person that delivers the news. Unless there are other incidents that she clearly downplayed or failed to mention it, I think she is just doing what ESPN asks her. Her accepting to do it is a different conversation IMO.

When sre y'all gonna put the capes away? She got real personal with the Ime situation compared to those twitter post. She wasn't reading off a promter when she was going at Stephen A over the Ime situation. She called in. Nor was she reading off a promter when she went at Perk because he disagreed and expressed that he had an inside source to the situation.

I can not speak for others but I really am not caping for her  I am genuinely trying to understand the underpinnings of the assertion that she is out to get black males. I can’t fully agree particularly when the strongest example (her getting emotional without a teleprompter/script regarding Ime) involves a male of influence and alleged sexual misconduct in the workplace which is a topic/discussion that would likely arouse women of any color in any workplace. Maybe even moreso at ESPN.

I will definitely be watching to see how how she reports on incidents involving white males in the future.

I don't know if Malika has disdain for black men, I don't know enough about her to say that but the Jokic brothers have been in the headlines the last couple years, has she brought up that one of them choked his girl and it went to court? This happened in 2019.

If it was the Jones brothers in the news yall think her "teleprompter" would read that one of them abused a woman in 2019?

That's a Mr. Fantastic level reach

People who get paid to watch sports have admitted to not watching Denver games before the playoffs 2023 and they barely cover the team but they're gonna report what his brother got charged with in 2019

She worked for the Denver Post and still doesn't know much about him.

I'm all for objective criticism (which rarely happens on NT) because there was a shift once the Rachel/Maria thing went down and she got bumped to the front back when people still loved her. (Maybe they got a new teleprompt writer.) What she does on these topics is her own version of what Stephen A did/does when NBA/NFL players get into trouble.

I don’t remember nt or many people having a problem with malika until people found out she was dating the white guy reporter at espn. Now people saying she’s maga and all sorts of stuff. I was reading youtube comments and white people hate her as well just because she’s half black.

I know a lot of people are obsessed with sports but it is weird how some of you know the every move of athletes and sports media people. I’ll look in a sports thread and you guys are posting new gossip about who someone is dating or having an affair with.

Perhaps it's a confluence of her:

1) Dating someone outside her ethnic background (even though she's partially white)?
2) Her covering a professional sport that is more than 70% black male athletes and including some negative history during a moment that should be applauded?
3) Maybe it could be that she is female covering a male sport?
4) Maybe it's because she doesn't have a former pro background a la Chiney, Candace Parker, or Cheryl Swoopes?

Personally, I don't have an issue with her and she's done a remarkable job of hosting Inside the NBA. Could Jalen, Jeff Van Gundy, etc have assumed that role? Maybe. But again, ESPN, if it were a NBA sports team, has her signed for the minimum.

wonder if SAS is really serious and thought he really like that
my youtube algorithim all filled with SAS now

Ya'll gotta stop leaning on that :lol

Joy Taylor was married to a white dude and she never gets criticized, wanna know why? Cuz Joy don't be on no BS.

I don't know what ya'll problem is with Malika, she fine to me both literally and metaphorically ya dig

She's borderline sports Candace Owens.

Comparing a Highly questionable, Around the horn or PTI type debate to a First take/Undisputed debate is stupid

Why would they stay/take the money? The same reason he got fired and came back now working like 6 jobs in one.

Things shifted with ESPN before streaming/YouTube and social media took a stronghold. Technology just cemented it. ESPN is the leader because of what they did before and buying all the TV rights. Other players are stepping up now though driving up the price of the brick.

They lose enough money on things they can control...movies like Elemental and Indiana jones remakes to pay the fired people from the past 15 years.

Highly Questionable was similar to first take in that it was more entertainment than actual sports. Dan's pops was the over the top LeBron hater, loud, Dan himself is loud. Stephen A's point was that Dan's show wasn't X's and O's.

The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network

Dan's pop was basically a mascot like Guillermo on Jimmy Kimmel.

My point is there a clear difference in what those show do to entertain.

Highly questionable was never a debate show or a crossfire type show where they thought they had to cover sides

highly questionable was more like PTI than anything, where it was a discussion and interviews rather than feeling the need to force debate and disagreement

Exactly, entertainment. That's SAS point Dan is apart of it too.

Dan said he hates what SAS and Skip have done to sports media. Dan's show was characters, loud, you just said his pops was a mascot.

Of course the shows have differences. :lol Nobody said the shows are the same. That's not the point though.

it’s all for entertainment, inclusive of the sports themselves

even the Olympics they shifted the event schedules for television audience purposes

but sas and skip are forced debate and more in the crossfire mold where sides have to be covered even the ridiculous.. it’s more so like wrestling with it’s farce

it's all sports entertainment. sas and skip are easy targets because they are pretty much the top names and make the most money.

nah it’s because evidence of the absurdity is there in glimpses

both guys will get challenged on the things they say and the points don’t hold up

as I said it’s the WWE-ing of this stuff.. and I see that, that has its lane.. just like overly biased talk radio has its lane

but I, as a very big sports fan, choose to do my best to avoid both

i don’t need to see a prominent black person taking bullets for Jerry Jones because he decided to show up for protest for black children simply trying to go to school
