Stephen A. Smith Wylin

I don’t think Malika makes that much money because remember that they took a chance on her and promoted her from within. Part of the Rachel stuff was about $ and them not wanting to pay Maria what she was worth. I’m sure Malika is in the six figures now but ESPN thrives on cheap talent and knowing how to keep salaries down when that cheap talent is up for a bag.

Nobody @ ESPN is moving the needle other than SAS.

Nobody is saying, "I am tuning into ESPN to see _____ (insert person)."

It is the WWE model ( Peep Game Peep Game ), don't make anyone bigger than the brand.

So yea, everyone is expendable. Nothing will change.
Stephen A has got to be thinking about what’s next.

To your point the biggest names always move on. Like Skip Bayless and Bill Simmons Smith is gonna outgrow that place.

Is SAS the ESPN equivalent to the Undertaker? A company first guy that has a huge brand but never puts himself ahead of the company.

this. she didn't have much experience and only been with espn shortly. think she was doing sideline and was not even part of the A team.
maria taylor had put in 10+ yrs in the business and was on multiple shows and covering different sports for espn

Thank you for this post because it took Maria a long time before she made $1 million and there is no Malika if Maria didn't make her stand and push for Malika.

Maybe it was for a segment but Maria moved in with Holly Rowe and they shared a NY apartment with one of Holly's kids. I wouldn't doubt that Chiney makes more than Malika because she signed a long term deal with ESPN.

Chiney is unique. She’s a pro ball player + talking head. She’s probably getting paid more for ESPN. But she wants multiple streams of income.

Even out of college, to appear on the world wide leader of sports is like 1% ish. She might not sniff a million on her next contract but she’s going to be making great money. She and her reporter boyfriend can probably take the trips to Dubai, Turks and Cacos, Santorini Greece, etc. She probably got all the designer bags.

And if ESPN is only paying SAS $12 million, these content hungry company’s will probably offer him more. He can literally host any type of sports or talk show.

All I know about Malika’s industry is the top salaries (which Skip is basically at the bottom of the Top 10 at $8MM) so it’s hard for me to speculate on what Malika should be making. I’m even saying she should be getting a mill or that she is making that. I just know that having her on a $50-78K salary as of July 5, 2023 is entirely too low

At least to me, it seems evident he is about maximizing his bag but also he wants the big time fame/exposure/credibility that being at Disney gets him. You can’t put a price on that but it does take a huge commitment, a ton of work ethic, skill, luck and an “it” factor (I can’t really explain it but IYKYK).
For example, Malika is the polar opposite of SAS but she had all those factors working for her and here she is.

Malika could easily go the Sage Steele route if she's not careful. Maria put her over if this were wrestling. DCAllAfrican DCAllAfrican did I use that phrase right?

Malika still gets away with her nonsense because a certain group of folks keep giving her a pass whenever anything comes up.

Sooner or later it won't be deniable.

And of course she rolls with the other team.

Which groups are giving her a pass when what comes?

Name demographics and topics!

If a report came out saying Malcom Brogdon stole a candy from the store when he was 6, Malika would be announcing it every chance she gets. Let Gordon Hayward smack his wife and it will be crickets.

In all seriousness, what white NBA players in the league have been in the news for something negative off the court and Malika failed to report on it? Coaches/GMs might be a larger sample size, are there any there?

Do Euro players count? Would she have reported on the Bo Cruz assault on his draft day if she was in Hustle?

Honestly, the way Max carries himself is annoying. Even on KJM, he would cut those guys off like crazy and force weird answers/angle during debates to find a way to counter them, alot of times going beyond what the question is even asking. I would be annoyed too.

I didn't bring that up to cap for Max...ALL these guys are or can be annoying that's how they get the ratings.

Some people intentionally over look things from certain people like Shannon's Hennessy, black & mild and wave cap routine

Did she go off on Meyers Leonard with scandal like she did with Ime? How about Sarver? Or was it just a brief mention and business as usual?

She’s prob around 100-120k. So it doesn’t make much sense to get rid of her.

She like most of the ESPN coverage were very quiet on both issues especially Sarver.

Thanks for bringing these back up. I forgot about the Meyers Leonard incident. Although I don’t know what she said in air (or if she was hosting NBA Today at the time) but broke the news for EPSN on Twitter and tweeted about it quite a bit

She also thoroughly reported about Sarver as evidenced here

She did go off regarding the Ime situation but IIRC that was while on First Take with SAS which was unscripted and more “emotional” or “herself” or whatever whatever you want to call it versus the other situations you pointed out where she was reading off of a teleprompter or a script that she was given.

So yeah, it seems like ESPN is in the business of discussing all of players transgressions via Twitter and television and Malika just happens to be the person that delivers the news. Unless there are other incidents that she clearly downplayed or failed to mention it, I think she is just doing what ESPN asks her. Her accepting to do it is a different conversation IMO.
