The dinosaur looks very old and stressed out

There's no signing involved. If a team conducts a successful waiver, the team acquires the player and his existing contract, and pays the remainder of his salary -- the waiving team is relieved of all responsibility for the player.

You can only claim a player if you have enough cap space and the only team that had cap space to claim him was the Sixers.

They can also claim a player if they have:

- a disabled player exception
- a trade exception for at least the salary of the player being claimed
- player has minimum salary deal
