Rookie and #1 option is just a weird qualifier. Like you could argue Pekovic or Martin are the number 1 options when they're healthy.
No one thought Wiggins was anywhere near ready to be number one option. Not many rookies are. You shouldn't hold it against him for being the best scorer on the team.

You also need to take into account that he wasn't the #1 for about the first month and half of the season. There were plenty of games in the beginning of the year where he just ran up and down the floor for 25+ minutes.

For reference McGrady averaged 7 ppg his rookie year in TOR. No Vince. 9ppg 2nd year with #1 option rookie VC averaging 18 ppg. 3rd year averaging 15ppg with #1 option VC in 2nd year averaging 26 ppg. 4th year Tracy McGrady age 21 traded to Orlando. Becomes #1 option. Averaged 27 ppg.
