It gets you paid

System player is the new way of saying overrated
The connotation of a system player implies that outside of the system his caliber would drop, perhaps significantly. That's why it is a negative connotation

Regardless, calling Leonard a system player is rubbish. He would flourish anywhere and deserves a max deal if Hayward and Parsons got them

Plug KL in any other starting lineup in the league and he will do exactly what he's doing now. Can't believe yall entertaining "system" talk about a guy known for being a freak athlete, lockdown defender, who can post smaller guys, finish above the rim, and a constant 3 pt threat.

Plug him anywhere and he will lock up the best wing scorer and he will get you 12-19 points every night. Nothing system about that.

Defense travels, no matter what team he's in he will defende but his offense is still suspect

The great thing about that is, you can find offense a lot easier than you can find ELITE defense. You just have to pair Leonard with certain players and you're set. Plus Leonard's offense is coming around anyway

I remember when the whole Celtics Nets trade went down a few years ago and ESPN was riding the Nets About it saying how the Celtics made one of the worst decisions ever.

Nets paying JJ/Deron/Brook over 55 million this season

Warriors whole starting five is 30 million.

There's no question, the Warriors won.

I don't care who someone is a fan of, they have to admit the Warriors are winning, literally and figuratively.

Won't win a championship the way they are, but they won.

Your right, but I thought the initial arguement was that KL isnt a Superstar, I beleive he is a star in this league just not a superstar

Kawhis defense leads to easy fast break opportunities.

Grantland wrote a great article discussing this

For over a decade now, the savviest basketball analysts have been talking about points per possession. But not all possessions are created equal. As it turns out, the nature of how a possession begins has a huge impact on its eventual fate. Leaguewide, possessions that originate with “live ball turnovers” — like steals — are generally the most effective possessions in the game. And the value of a steal does not end with the turnover, as steals also typically yield extremely valuable ensuing possessions going the other way.

This isn’t exactly a new idea, but thanks to new kinds of performance data, we now have numbers to back it up.

As of today, the Clippers and the Warriors have the most efficient offenses in the league. Both teams average 109.3 points per 100 possessions, just about four points better than the league average of 104. But even those incredible offenses can’t hold a candle to the efficiency of an average team following an average live ball turnover. Overall this season, NBA offenses scored a whopping 124 points per 100 possessions1 following a live ball turnover. In other words, even the most mediocre NBA teams suddenly morph into dominant offensive forces immediately after the kinds of live ball turnovers that Leonard is really good at creating.

So it’s not enough to say that steals turn defense into offense. They often turn defense into the best kind of offense. Here is Leonard demonstrating the basketball version of a pick-six

As I wrote about a few weeks ago, the league’s player tracking system is finally enabling us to understand defensive performances, revealing which players are really good at suppressing and disrupting opponents’ shots. It turns out Leonard is one of the best, not just at stealing the ball, but also at reducing the scoring prowess of his assignments. Below is Leonard’s defensive shot chart from last season, which reveals that he is really good at preventing 3-point shots from even happening. Those tiny dots all around the 3-point arc suggest that when Leonard is the assigned defender, players hardly ever even attempt 3s. The blueness of those dots reveals that when they do end up shooting, they exhibit significant decreases in efficiency.

Reason why the warriors are gonna have a tough time playing the Spurs.

The piece is title "Claw School: Kawhi Leonard’s Defensive Master Class"

Would post the link but I'm a noob.

We going to get into this discussion again?

The difference between star, superstar, franchise player, elite

Last time we had this discussion, that one dude said James Harden isn't elite. What are we going to learn this time around

Someone tell me the definition to all of these distinctions

Kawhi cant create his own looks? That is false

people define overrate "creating looks". you don't have to isolate from the top of the key to be effective or be able to score. he can hit jumpshots and has a good faceup game from 15

Exactly what I mean. But to most he's gotta get Od fancy and take crazy step back jumpers in order to fit the bill. His post up game alone is enough to give him the label of being able to create his own looks.
