The College Basketball Post

I mean at one point in his life Ty Lawson needed serious help. If not being in the nba caused him to change his life around then that's a blessing to keep it a buck.

I understand his frustration, but coaches also don't have an obligation to lie to help you when teams reach out -- it'll look bad on them once you go out and **** it up. I'm sure Roy values his word meaning something to NBA GMs, and if Ty wasn't in a place where Roy had a ringing endorsement for them, then he shouldn't be upset with anyone but himself UNLESS it wasn't true.

Damn, White Iverson has had it with every team meal being jerk chicken.

Supposedly Roy had told 10+ NBA execs not to mess with him, because of his drinking / gambling habits

I question the validity of that. This is 2 days after Danny green said Roy calling in the nba saved his career. GMs prob passing the buck on Roy. I mean Roy had a chance to dogg him out on both of those things pre draft and didn’t. Ty hit the same casinos Roy did on the road. In fact, it was a “thing” the press tried to get at him for twice that title season.

Heels got love for Ty all day. If he wants to feel differently, that’s fine. But he was approaching fringe All Star potential in the league before it fell apart for him.

Dude was a monster in 2009.

I have absolutely no reason to believe Ty Lawson is lying here. This happens fairly often.

Just because he put in a good word for Danny Green doesn't mean that he's NOT picking up the phone and answering (probably honestly) questions that teams are asking about Ty Lawson. And Roy isn't wrong in the matter either if Ty really has a problem...

I'm not saying he's lying. I'm saying I'm not positive it's about the drinking and gambling. He got citations at UNC. He gambled at UNC. Roy could have dogged earlier. Ty ain't really been back. So how does Roy talking to GMs in 2020 about a kid he hasn't seen much since 2009 make sense? If I'm a GM, why would I even want to hear about 11 years ago?

I'm not saying Roy didn't say anything. I'm not saying Ty Lawson is lying.

I'm saying there is more to the story then we are speculating is my opinion.

The only guy I believe he was actively dogging was McCants. Lawson played in the NBA from 2009-2017 straight. And had pro Carolina posts as recently as 2019. So I'm supposed to believe after basically 3 years (minus a few 10 days) out the league that people called his college coach from 2009 and took his word enough for that to be the ONLY reason Ty ain't back in the leauge? That's a stretch even if Roy DID dog him imo.

Pretty sure Ty is referring to Roy not providing glowing references to GMs in the lead up to the 2009 draft, not in 2020...
