The last children by Truthgetsbusy

'88 here.

i'll tell ya, i agree with OP.

and for the record, the last couple years in high school included myspace/facebook, and lots of internet, so i'm kinda borderline.

but i do appreciate my parents now for only having 1 TV in the house growing up and not allowing video game systems...

made me go outside and live and enjoy my childhood!!!

My dude Busy telling that truth out here

I gotta disagree with one thing though, I always had swag.

I don't know why the OP excluded people born in the early 90s from his post when stating people born prior to '88 would understand his stance.

Please don't tell me the few years you spent in the 80s made a big difference.

QFT. I was born in '91 but I was a Power Ranger fanatic, thought watchin' Jordan play was the greatest (pops introduced me

Ok I didn't wanna turn this into a old vs young post but you guys keep posting non-sense like this....

Son when did you watch Jordan play? I'll give you the last 3-peat if you can remember it....and the Wizards
laugh.gif
. Stop it......And you got a cell phone at 14? We talking bout gettin cellphones at 17 being the earliest...18 mostly. Don't get defensive kids it's not that serious. You guys were still kids during the Y2K craze and 9/11.Chill out.

I can agree with this but also think about how generations are being shaped. Think about our grandparents who have no idea what we are talking about when itcomes down to technology.

In 40 years, think about how evolved this fresh new generation will be. Right now, we are experiencing the transition period but once everyone is up andrunning the new way to live will be through all of the new technology that has been produced. Its change and it will always happen.

Children will have new ways to experience childhood and that "standard" will change when the next generation comes around...It just keeps going.

100% agreed . Just go to any highschool nowadays and see
smh.gif
Lames everywhere. Mid-late 80s born people FTW . 90s born kids FTL

Now they text instead of writing notes in class? Again, please stop.

If you think the quality of things you had were better growing up, then fine.

In no way, are any of these things preventing children to have a childhood.
this is the truth.
No, it's not.

In a child's early years their development and interest for certain things has a great deal to do with the colors associated with what their seeing. Infants and toddlers are attracted to beautiful arrays of colorful things. Can you name anything more colorful than video games or anything with enhanced digital graphics? Probably not. So when children today see these things they become interested and when their minds reach the ages of 4-5+ and they start to figure out how these contraptions work they develop an even bigger infatuation for them. IMO the invention of the PS1 started the downfall of socialism and interaction between neighborhood kids. That was what? 1995? '96?

And to the dude that said this generation still draws...

This:
rugrats.gif

will always be better than...

This:
pandf.jpg

And right now I'd say the only creative cartoon is Spongebob because the animation is still clever and the stories are still realistic and within the realm of possibility given their scenarios.
Do you realize why the OP made this thread? He said that he felt sorry for kids today because they have no lives, and are losing touch withreality. His examples compared the technology, fashion and entertainment he grew up on to what kids today have.

"We saw MJ when he was black"?

"We know how it felt to call a girl and wait to see if she picks up"? What?

"We looked at dirty magazines"?

Okay, the Rugrats' animation was better than that cartoon you posted. And? How will that stop a child from enjoying their childhood? And you know damn wellyou picked the worst possible cartoon to use in your example.
laugh.gif

I can understand reminiscing on your childhood, I can understand someone feeling as if creativity is lacking today, but to say kids today have no lives is justabsurd.

OP basically said, "Hey, the things we had growing up were different from what kids today have."

ehh.. is there really that big of a difference there?

i don't see why you are taking a small gap in years and magnifying it into something greater than it is... it's not as if we're comparing ourparent's generation to the current generation.

a REAL difference will be in, say, 20 years time... at that point in time, the new generation of children will be growing up SIGNIFICANTLY different from howyou or i may have grown up.

Exactly. I mean, this dude can't be serious.

He's not talking about watching Pistol Pete play in comparison to Jordan, he's talking about him starting to watch Jordan during the first 3-peat asoppose to someone starting to watch Jordan during the second 3-peat.

Dude is comparing his viewing of the NBA to someone else's viewing that's within a 10 year span, and he's talking about "old vs. young."

No....my friend you are lost. I'm saying that my generation closed a certain chapter in time. You younger guys are starting a newer one. A chapter thatwill last for a good minute not just 10 years. Of course we know about the same things (shows, movies, music) but it ain't the same my man. Just face it. We were the last generation to grow up "off-line" or "unplugged". Even in HS I could careless what was poppin on the net. I used tocheck NT for shoe releases and pics then log out.

so you used the internet in HS then? what about the people born 5 years before you, who probably didn't even have internet in HS?

why does this "new" generation start after you, and not after them?

exactly... his points are actually very weak. if OP was born in the late 70s or so, i could understand where he is coming frmo.

but he is basically trying to claim the superiority of his small subset of our generation (yes, we are in the same generation) on the basis of seeing the tailend of Michael Jordan's career, seeing the whiteskinned Michael Jackson perform, and checking NT just rarely asopposed to checking it all the time..

There is no generation split between someone who was born in '85 to someone who was born in the late 80s or early 90s.

Starting kindergarten around the time someone was born definitely does not create a gap between generations.

You grew up in the 90s. Most of these memories you and most people in this thread are bringing up all occurred in the 90s.

You're not apart of a different generation, sorry.

Simply beautiful, thread of the year my man.

86'

Can't forget CD players though my man. Walking, holding them upright so it dont skip.

This is ridiculous...op act like its a 35 yr difference between someone born in 85 and someone borin in 89. Lol wth? I was born in 86 my sis was born in 89, werememeber all the same stuff. How can you act as if a few years makes us so different?

OP statement is truth but...
Generations evolve that's just how it is. look at the 'Veteran' Generation compared to Generation X there are crazy differences.
This new generation will go through the same processes past generations did in terms of adapting and fitting in with American culture.

^ I gotta agree. My brother was born 85 and I in 88 and we have pretty much all the same memories.
Now my sister born in 98 is most def of a different crop.

We are the last children...the last generation of growing up without the internet. We grew up in the 80's/early 90's....this is when kids had lives. During this era kids had no choice but to go outside because the only thing poppin inside was Nintendo/Sega or some VHS tapes. From the city to burbs we had a crew of friends and just went out and about. We went on little missions to the corner store or in the woods or whatever. We played ball in the park til it got dark or the street lights came on. We played football in the streets. We rode bikes. We knocked on doors and ran. We ate candy and looked at dirty magazines. We had school clothes and play clothes. We seen Michael Jordan play. We had trading cards. We watched cartoons on Saturdays.

We are the last children...we didn't have swag. We didn't have myspace, facebook, twitter or whatever to connect us with people who we don't give a damn about. We didn't have our JV basketball roster posted on the school website. We couldn't google anybody, anything, anywhere. We didn't download music. We didn't have thousands of pictures of ourselves.

We are the last children because we didn't a cell phone to Jr/Sr year of high school. And that phone had a green background with black text. That phone was for calling/texting/snake/tetris and chirping if you was ballin.

This is not to hate on the younger generation but I feel for you guys. We know what its like to have peace and quiet. We know what its like to knock on somebody's door and ask their parents if they were home. We know what its like to call a girl on her house phone and hope she answers before her mama do. We know what it's like play a video game get all the way to the end and not be able to save your progress. We know what it was like to record a song off the radio with a cassette tape. We seen Michael Jackson when he was black.

I feel for the younger generation because every song has a sample from a older song, every movie is a remake of an older movie or cartoon. It's really sad the lack of oringinal entertainment these days. Every shoe you guys get is a retro or fusion. I feel for you guys. Trying to bring back high top fades and 80's fashion....why? Make your own mark on history.

We are the last children. I fear that we are slowly losing touch with reality. These kids are growing up soft, they are eating horrible, they getting fat, they don't have people skills, and by 18 they can't even get a date. As much good technology has done it has done bad. Please discuss NT.

Im not reading this novel homie

at the irony.

1. i had the same exact thought.

2. youre right. its sad in a lot of ways. and its only gonna get worse and in a weird way better depending on how you look at it. technology will continue tosoar... and going outside for pickup games of hoop, baseball, football and what not will be almost forgotten.
