The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Combat sports, especially mma, you have to strike while the iron is hot. There is little relevance to comparing fighter contracts to other major sports leagues. In sports leagues there is no wiggle room when players sign or very little

In mma we have seen fighters restructure their deals after contracts have been signed.

I don't know what you think you're "arguing", but to be clear, what you're saying applies to ALL sports where you are under contact.

Which is my point. Hence the comparison.

And no I'm not going to wager anything about what Tony is making considering you just moved the goal post :lol

Dude I'm not even arguing lol I'm stating that I don't care if stipe is asking for more. Plain and simple

And how is it moving a goal post about tony? You're asking me if tony really got a raise, I stated I don't know but we'll find out after the fight more than likely

I hate how basically you have to shuck and jive in order to be a draw. I don't like CMG but I respect his business savvy and his plans to get in, get paid and get out.

If having to act like an *** to pique the interest of the casual fan then so be it. Can't be out here mad because you should know how the UFC does.

If I'm Stipe I'm calling out JBJ and even Cormier. I'm showing my *** and taking pages from the CMG playbook.

And **** it, call out Brock. $$$

I feel like Anderson was a draw without all that. Chuck. Dudes who had highlight reel finishes.

Stipe could be that dude over time though. He's gotten a good amount of performance bonuses if memory serves.

But the guys who have found a way to balance ability and marketing have always been successful.

Ali
Floyd
Rampage
Even Chael talked his way into fights he may not have actually belonged in.

Yeah I agree, gotta have both longevity/staying power and showmanship. For what Silva lacked with the mic he made up for in the ring with his ability to make guys look absolutely silly.

Liddell wasn't very personable but he had a identifiable look/brand about him which made him readily likeable for the casual consumer.

We've seen robbie lawler involved in all time classic fights the last few years and it hasn't upped his star power.

Since bj returned it had me thinking of how he was so popular because he was so good. Yeah he would say something crazy or act a fool once in a while but his fights marketed themselves. Kinda the same thing with gsp, liddell, and randy.

BJ had an aura about him. He was a savage and what's more he really appealed to the Pacific Islander demographic. They love them some BJ Penn.

That helps too, fans are tribalistic across all sports and probably more so in combat sports.

Valid on Lawler.

Maybe the fact that a few of those were "controversial" decisions hurt him? Besides Rory he didn't have the devastating finishes that Anderson, BJ, Chuck had.

But either way he was the kind of fighter who's fights/fighting style should have made him a bigger star.

Failure on the UFC's part by not properly promoting him.

They ******* suck at promoting.

He should of played up the side of him that said he would take Conor's "soul" in that interview :lol

They should've made savage of the year shirts with robbie's face on it.

There's this Japanese gamer girl i follow on ig and she's pretty popular on youtube, I think it was last year that the ufc had her actually speak and have kind of a social media seminar for ufc fighters.

Nate Diaz has applied for a boxing license in Nevada

The commission expects to approve him and they said they welcome nick and nate to fight in Nevada whether it's mma or boxing

Floyd commented that nate is unhappy with his inactivity since the Conor fight

It would be a shame if the UFC loses them dudes to boxing.

Stockton Slap won't be the same :lol

But I love boxing so I'll still watch.

penn made $150k to get beat up. yair made 50k plus another 50k win bonus.

BJ Penn was never knocked down. When Yair kicks him, he steps on BJ's left foot and he loses his balance falling to the canvas. His inability to move his foot made it impossible to dodge the strike that "dropped" him and he was off balance.

BJ was never in that fight though. He needs to either get right back into another camp or stay retired. No more 2 year lay offs.

Bro, just from a humanitarian POV, to actually suggest for BJ to continue fighting is honestly a terrible terrible thing

He looked so lethargic and his eyes looked horrible, like huge bags under his eyes. His whole aura was just not there. The fight game has long passed this guy

As a HUGE fan, I don't want to see him fight.

But he wants to continue fighting and if that's the case, he needs to avoid the year+ lay offs.

I think he should retire.

But if he's going to fight again, can't be against a young gun.

Has to be more in line with the Tito/Chael fight.

they should have just continued with his first scheduled fight, BJ Penn vs Dennis Siver.
