The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Hmm if that Izzy-Caio gets officially booked you'd think they could be aiming for DDP-Sean on that card.

Possibly. I wouldn’t be mad at DDP/Strickland, Izzy/borrallho, and Volk/Lopes. Too soon for the new CKB kid to turn around from Tampa. Hooker seems up in the air right now.

No Tafas or Tai lol plz.

Valentina never popped for PEDs. She’s beaten Holms and Pena at 135. Both former champs. She beat JJ and Jessica Eye. I do agree there was a period where FW was super shallow. But at the Santos fight, comp started to get tougher. She is the current champ of a division with legitimate competition (Rose, Blanchfield, Fior, Grasso, etc). She can also move up to BW.

Her only losses were to Amanda and Alexa. One of the fights to Amanda and Alexa were split ties that folks thought Valentina won (the second Nunes and Grasso fights).

Now I understand where you take the stance that Cyborg was dominant during her run (besides some stinkers and loss to Amanda’s). But the reason why the UFC originally signed her was to have her cut weight to make BW. She couldn’t. Meanwhile..,Kayla can. And Kayla fought at 155 in PFL. And 145 isn’t a deep division in any MMA promotion. I do think she’s an all time great. But her run/competition isn’t going to age very well when you have folks like Rose, Weill, JJ, etc fighting tough competition.
Yeah she's the current champ of a division that's strong now but she's only fought Grasso from that crop of talent who she is 1-1-1 with.

Jones and Silva popped are they still not top 1-3?

Kayla also said this last cut was so bad that she was bleeding throughout it. We saw the videos of how Cyborg looked like she was about to die, so I really don't know how smart it is of Kayla to keep doing this if it ain't safe for her.

JJ, another true 115er who she weight bullied. The only reason JJ got that shot was cause Montano kept pulling out to defend against Valentina. Pena was not a former champ at the time they fought. And yeah, if you think Pena and Eye are notable wins then we should just end the debate

Unless Valentina retires, then she’s still the champ. She can’t avoid Fiorot, Blanchfield or Blanchfield. She on a collision course with two of them and/or possibly Weill.

MMAfighting and UFC have Valentina as #1 Women’s P4P.

Cyborg way down there. Why? Just to be fair Junkie has Cyborg as #1, Valentina as #3. On ESPN, Valentina is #2 (after Weill), Cyborg #4. Interesting thing is all them lists have Blanchfield, Fiorot, Weill, etc on there.

Fact still remains, strength of opposition still favors Valentina. She fought in bantamweight when it was still good. I understand your argument about how there was a depth of talent issue when the division first started. But the division became “good” about the time when she began to struggle in her title fights.

Cyborg being #3 isn’t a slight. It’s been utter domination in a shallow division. Her two major P4P opponents were Amanda and Pacheco during her run.

We also have to admit women’s MMA is still very nascent which is why I think these GOAT conversations will change in 5-10 as we will have more sample data.

Honestly, women’s featherweight isn’t a strong, deep division across all of the MMA promotions. It’s why the UFC pretty much got rid of it and is forcing Kayla down to 135. Kayla ain’t got no choice for right now. She has to make 135 if that’s the belt she’s going to compete for.

As far as Jon Jones, I honestly have him #3. Silva #4. I got GSP and MM 1 and 2. JJ has the multiple suspensions, PED use, inactivity and lackluster end to his LHW run. I get where Dana is coming from. Dude was dominant during his run. It’s just the inactivity that hurts him IMO. But I wouldn’t be mad if someone has him numero uno on their list. Jon probably had the best strength of opposition during his run minus the tail end of his LHW run. I got DJ #2 because he’s got the title defense record in the UFC. And when it was all said and done, he had great record and didn’t go out sad like Silva or popped for PEDs. Same with GSP. Two WW title runs, a dubious MW champ, and went out with only two losses.

The beautiful thing about everything I typed up there is it’s just an opinion. It’s all debatable like pound for pound. I respect if you got Cyborg #2. Or Jon Jones #1.

Only reason homeboy didn’t get stomped out by Thais is because his opponent was from Iran. If it had been a local, dude would’ve been trying to get out of the country ASAP.
