The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Yep fact is UFC will make plenty of money without having to shell out a huge payday to someone like Jones. The next media deal could be massive and i don't think it really hinges on them making a blockbuster fight and giving someone 40-50 mil.

This isn't the first time Chandler has tried his dirty tactics. So lame he got away with that many strikes to the back of the head and all those fence grabs.

Pretty much this. UFC doesn't want or have to pay their fighters that much cause there will always be another fight card with another great fight on the line for a fraction of the price. Giving all your profits to a fighter is just unnecessary for the UFC. It's tragic but it's also why they are super successful.

I'm probably in the minority but I've always thought fence grabs should be legal.
Biggest reasons I can see for the rule are it helps guys avoid takedowns, could lead to injuries (same reason they don't allow toes in the fence) and the fence isn't really designed to be used as help in those ways. There are definitely pros and cons to fighting in either a ring or cage though.

^^^It’s literally cheating. It negates someone taking them down and possibly taking advantage to get wore out, GnP or subbed by their opponent (or who knows what else). A cage can benefit takedowns though.

A ring definitely makes taking down harder.

But seriously, do ya think Jon has a chance against Tom?

Jon obviously got his hands on Gane and choked him out. He beat the brakes off of Stipe.

But he looked less elusive against Stipe. Getting hit in exchanges or turning his back and still getting caught. I wouldn’t do that against Tom.

Oh I know it's cheating. I'm saying I think it would be cool if it wasn't, just to see how it would change the game. Even if they did it just for certain gimmick fights like when James Toney and Couture fought.

Prying your opponent or their hands off the cage so you could get them down. Trying to reverse ground control by crawling to the cage to pull yourself up.

Would be something to see. And I've been watching MMA since the late 90's so I know it would be wildly unpopular among purists.

Jim Miller, Jon Jones and Charles Oliviera fought on this weeks past card.

All of them legends and hold records:

http://statleaders.ufc.com/

Jon ( on the list of most wins, title wins, title fights).

Miller (most UFC fights, Most UFC wins, second most UFC subs and a top finisher).

Oliviera (on the list of most wins, most subs, most finishes).

I would favor Tom slightly if he and Jones fought. Tom is very explosive for a HW and I think he could stop the takedowns and hit JJ with power shots. Additionally, once Tom gets top position it's usually curtains from his devastating GnP. Though I said only slightly since Bones could still play the range game and use his kicks to keep Tom at distance. Too bad we likely never see it though.

This isn’t a bad card. I’ll probably be asleep when it’s happening. But will definitely catch the main and co main (and Carlos Ulberg/Oz fight).

Aspinall fight seems likely

UFC will cash out Jon

Don’t see aspinal going to the ground with Jon so Jon will likely pick him apart at range

I've seen this movie before
