The NBA Draft Thread

Simmons seems like that type of dude that feels like his talent makes it so he doesn't have to give 100%. He definitely checked out during repeatedly last season at LSU. A team with him and some decent supporting pieces shouldn't have been NIT bound.
I see the same thing in Simmons. Being a sixers fan this makes me mighty worried. His lackadaisical demeanor frightens me. If he has superstars playing around him I feel like he'll give it his all. But i see a more athletically gifted Michael Beasley type of player.

Not going to psychoanalyze the kid but his attitude definitely doesn't scream leader, skills be damned.

He can develop into that though, it's really up to him and I'm pretty sure he will be more motivated to play in the NBA considering he would've done so last year if it was possible.

My question is if he is going to be motivated to play for that bum roster. Like when they lose 55 games this year, "will he be able to handle losing."

No Dr Phil

The rigors of the NBA humble most rookies
are the 76ers a team that can keep him at ease with certain measures ?
Look at what Oak went through off the court
Simmons gonna be boogie 2.0.

The rebounding and pushing the ball
The passing stationary and on the move
The rudimentary, but effective post skills
The indifference to playing defense

The elements are there.

I would say a better odom. I understand where the Blake comparisons come from but Blake is such a freak athlete that it's tough to compare guys to him. Just like when people were trying to compare randle to Blake

Simmons is so much more advanced in the ball skills than Blake was at the same age

So the Bucks have officially put Monroe on the trading block. Should the pels trade for him if they miss out on Bender and Dunn?

I would personally choose Monroe over everyone else.

For the guys talking about the Simmons comparisons, this is a fair breakdown from bleacherreport:

"If anybody defies comparison, it's Ben Simmons.

We're talking about a freshman who produced some of the nation's best stats and projects as a power forward at the NBA level. But instead of boasting a back-to-the-basket game, he's a natural ball-handler who could become a de facto point forward if he lands on a team (cough, Philadelphia 76ers, cough) without a strong incumbent point guard.

In some ways, Simmons is the evolutionary Lamar Odom. He may be a poor man's LeBron James at the beginning of his career. The possibilities feel limitless.

His closest statistical matches, Marvin Williams, Kevin Love, Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard and Ed Davis, all have vastly dissimilar games, and few of them have much in common with this LSU standout. But at least Green has proved himself as one of the NBA's best distributors by leading the 73-win Golden State Warriors in assists per game.

He'll earn the nod for that reason, and that reason alone. But don't be fooled into thinking Simmons fits into any one established box.

More so than any other player in this year's draft class, he's truly a unique prospect."

Basically, everyone and no one. lol

Yuck, get some perimeter players around Davis please. Don't need Monroe clogging the paint.

Rather keep our frontcourt.

What's stopping Simmons from being another Beasley, Anthony Bennett, Marvin Williams, Anthony Randolph, Derrick Williams? I feel like in year's past PFs of his nature who put up crazy #s in college and were drafted high all ended up being busts.

Simmons can be Odom on steroids. I can't really give him that Lebron comparison cuz I don't think he has a attack mindset (one of the reasons I prefer Ingram on the Lakers). Playing for that mess in Philly might not do him any good. But if he works on his shot and gets a killer mentality it can be scary.

Exactly my thoughts.

Blake at the same age was a way freakier athlete and less developed as a ball handler.

Any Blake comparison loses steam if you don't account for his athleticism especially that was what most set him apart especially early in his career.

Let's be honest here......Odom's averages for his career were what? Like 14, 8 and 4? Simmons will average better than that in his rookie year alone let alone to say that at like 19 years old right now that that's going to be his damn ceiling. He could honestly be a better version of Blake Griffin...that's what I could see out of him.

I'd be shocked if Simmons has better numbers than Odoms rookie year.

LOL at better version than Blake Griffin. I get it he's most likely gonna be a sixer but come on.

Dude he averaged 16, 7 and 4...you really don't think he'll easily get those numbers if not better? I mean if he actually plays the whole season and doesn't average AT LEAST those numbers I'd be highly disappointed.
