I'm not going to say this is a fallacy or untrue. But just locally, here in Tampa (YMMV), only two stores had the Beethovens. The Moonwalkers were released in 4-5 stores.

Ls everywhere for the Elites.
The MCs were super hyped, sold out in under hours. Beethovens....I think were a bit different. Supply just wasn't there unless you're in a big city.
