alright so after having my new MBP 15' for about a week or 2 now i noticed that this screen seems to be easily smudged
ohwell.gif
and i do not want to ruin it... what are some good screen protectors out there for it?
screens don't really get scratches unless you REALLY don't take care of it. If you absolutely need one though, Invisible Shield or Moshi iVisors are your best bet

i was measuring my wall once and i tried to go over the comp with the measuring tape extended and i hit it on accident -.-

was in my old comp tho, and i had problems with my screen colors so they switched it

you know you can get the new 13" pro @ microcenter for 999.99 right? find one in your location

Im currently using my Macbook Pro as a media server for my PS3. I can stream movies and music just fine wirelessly. But whenever I close the lid o the laptop goes to sleep i lose the connection. Is there any way around this?

Anyone have any suggestions on a L-shaped desk? I was thinking of the Galant from Ikea...Looks big enough to fit two iMac's.

Just got the 13 inch MBP from Microcenter. Trying to get my iTunes from my PC to load on the new mac. Looking at some guides online but still having trouble with it. Anyone done this before?

Make a solution of one parts water to one parts isopropyl alcohol. Spray it on a microfiber towel (eyeglasses wipes work fine too) and go to work. If you want to spend money, buy iKlear.

You're slowly damaging your screen. Pure alcohol is corrosive to today's CRT and LCD monitors. Mix it with equal parts water and you'll still have an effective cleaning solution

NT, need your help. My daughter spilled water all over my keyboard and trackpad
frown.gif
. Since then, the keyboard doesn't light up fully. That isn't my main concern though. My main concern is the trackpad hasn't worked right since. It goes all crazy all over the screen now and it randomly clicks everywhere. It's pretty annoying...i'm thinking about just getting a mouse but I want to fix the trackpad eventually. Anyone know how I can fix this or how much it would cost to fix? It's a 08 MBP 13''. Thanks.

question for the more knowledgable NT Mac users....

the previous owner of our home was a big tech guy.  He installed a composite (yellow, red, white) cable wall jack underneath his Mac desktop.

apparently he was able to watch videos and pictures direct to his flat screen in the adjacent room.

His family was very nice, but HE wasn't very approachable so I couldn't ask him the dynamics of his home entertainment system (Yamaha A/V receiver, Denon Blu-Ray, etc).

Since we've moved in I have the wall jack available under my Mac, but am unaware of its capabilities.

Can I connect my Mac to this wall jack?  Or is composite strictly for iPod/iPad use?

Thanks.

Depending on your mac you need something like this.
http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9319G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU1MTE

http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9319G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MTA4NDU1MTEyoull also need a mini plug to rca for audio.  The problem with this setup is that resolution sucks.  Wont be too bad for like netflix but everything else will suck.

So you suggest I connect the Mini-DVI to the back of my Mac?  but the problem is the Mac is in the adjacent room.  Hence the reason the previous home owner installed the Composite cable wall jack.

So how does the Mini-DVI work in conjunction with my wall jack?

Apple released the much anticipated iMac updates today, upgrading the processors to Quad-Core CPUs across the entire range and including Thunderbolt.
Apple today updated its signature all-in-one iMac with next generation quad-core processors, powerful new graphics, groundbreaking high-speed Thunderbolt I/O technology and a new FaceTime HD camera. Starting at $1,199, the new iMac is up to 70 percent faster and new graphics deliver up to three times the performance of the previous generation.
The new iMacs feature quad-core Intel Core i5 processors with an option for customers to choose Core i7 processors up to 3.4GHz.

The 21.5-inch iMac has a single Thunderbolt port while the 27" features two Thunderbolt ports.

21.5" 2.5GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6750M, 500GB, $1199
21.5" 2.7GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6770M, 1TB, $1499
27" 2.7GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6770M, 1TB, $1699
27" 3.1GHz Quad Core i5, AMD 6970M, 1TB, $1999

Core i7 Processors are available as configure-to-order options.
In the wake of today's release of new iMacs, a number of tidbits about the new models have been surfacing.

105401-imac_2011_mouse_trackpad.jpg
Magic Trackpad: While Apple previously allowed customers to add a Magic Trackpad to their iMac orders for an additional charge of $69, the company now offers customers the option of swapping out the included Magic Mouse for a Magic Trackpad at no additional charge.
iMac comes with a wireless keyboard and either a Magic Mouse or a Magic Trackpad - your choice. With Magic Mouse, you get a mouse unlike any other. Its smooth, seamless design lets you control everything with simple gestures. But if you're all gestures all the time, then opt for Magic Trackpad. Its touch-friendly all-glass surface gives you plenty of room to scroll, swipe, pinch, and rotate to your fingers' content. When you purchase your new iMac from the Apple Online Store, you have the option to replace the included Magic Mouse with the Magic Trackpad at no extra cost.
Customers can of course still add the Magic Trackpad for $69 if they wish to have both input devices.

27-Inch Model as External Display: Since 2009, the 27-inch iMac has supported use of the machine as a secondary display via the Mini DisplayPort connector. Called "Target Display Mode", the feature allows users significant flexibility in using the machine either on its own or to provide extra screen real estate for other machines when needed.

While we were unable to find explicit mention of support for Target Display Mode on the new iMac product pages, an Apple sales representative has confirmed to us that the new 27-inch models do continue to support the feature through the new Thunderbolt ports.

105402-imac_2011_thunderbolt_ports.jpg
Dual External Display Support: Beyond continued support for display input, GigaOM reports that the presence of two Thunderbolt ports on the new 27-inch iMac will allow the machine to drive two external displays for a total of three screens.
One of the most exciting things about today's new iMacs (and the thing that will probably result in me buying one) are the dual Thunderbolt ports on the 27-inch iMac. They're great in that they provide a lot of potential I/O transfer power, but more importantly because it allows the new iMac to output to two external monitors simultaneously, Apple confirmed to me this morning.
Boot Camp Update: Apple has already pushed out a Boot Camp 3.2 software update for the new iMac, addressing issues with Japanese and Korean keyboards. Asimilar update was released for Apple's new MacBook Pros early last month.

Boot Camp is Apple's utility for allowing users to natively run versions of Microsoft Windows on their Macs.

The wall jack isn't gonna help you ut much unless you want whatever is on your HDTV to look like
aaf35799ef9b9300a0242439ecf23d9bc10159c.gif
. What's the distance between the computer and the TV? are you against drilling new holes?  The best wired setup would be to get an HDMI-to-Displayport cable or a HDMI cable and a Displayport adaptor. DVI only carries video so you'd still need someway to carry audio with that option. HDMI-Displayport will handle both your a/v needs at the highest resolution available. If you want to go the streaming route without the need for any extra cables, you can use PS3 Media Server in conjunction with a PS3 or Xbox360 to get videos and pictures to your TV

EDIT: have you considered a RAID system?

Guess if I can't find somebody to fix it I'm just going to get another one using my student loan. When do they come out with new macbooks?

Water probably got on the logic board which is causing the short you're experiencing. Logic board replacement is a tier 4 repair..basically that means you'll be shelling out almost as much as the cost of a new laptop for that part. You might want to find a compute repair location in your area for a cheaper price. Otherwise, a new laptop may be in order. New models just recently came out so now would be the time to buy if you want the most recent one available

Thanks, I'm going to look around but if it is a tier 4 repair then yeah i'll just get another one. Where's the best place to buy one? I'd want to get 4 gb ram this time around and maybe even a bigger hdd. This would be for school so I'll probably just get a 13'' again.

Microcenter or macmall.com usually have slightly cheaper prices. Amazon charges no tax though

Thanks. I'll probably check out microcenter. I need to transfer all my music/movies/pictures onto the new one though...is that pretty simple?

One more question, haha. The "Buy a Macbook Get a Free IPod deal" for students, that's usually at the end of May or first week of June correct? Might just play the waiting game and jump on that deal.

end of may for sure just like every year. Transferring information is pretty simple though. You have a few options. If you want a straight clone of your drive, just use an external and make a time machine backup. You can even physically swap out the drive in your old computer and put it in the new one.
If neither of those sound like something you want to do, you can use the Migration Assistant built into OSX or manually transfer files via Firewire
