The Official Military Thread. Vol 1

Question for my Air Force NTers: Does the Air Force take in prior service for Commissioned Officers?

Background: I was enlisted in the Army from Jan 2007 to May 2010 and now currently in the Army IRR.
I'm thinking of going back to the Military, but I want to become a Commissioned Officer in the Air Force this time.
Will the AF allow me to crossover? Thanks.

Thinking of being a Services Specialist in the AF or a Warrant Officer [UAV pilot] in the Army (already have a degree)

I'd prefer to be Air Force because deployments are shorter & growing up in an AF family, I'm familiar with alot of the bases stateside and overseas. On the Army side though, I'd be making a good $1200 more a month from day 1; but deployments are more frequent and you don't always know when you're coming home.

I grew up in Cali so if I was guaranteed to be stationed there, that would sway me to one branch over the other.

My degree was in Marketing so that's where I'd put it to use, marketing & management/running the base gyms, lodges, and stuff. (but I hear the TDY opportunities are few & far between and it takes a while to rank up in that field--2 big CONS for me).

I really wanna fly UAVs IN the Air Force but you gotta have a Bachelor's (Enlisted can only be sensor operators, which is bulls*** when the AF already said they are in demand for 500+ UAV pilots. Stop requiring them all to be Officers! All students take the same 3+ month training anyway
mad.gif
). I think I'm gonna try to meet with a sensor operator & possibly reconsider...that Warrant Officer path in the Army ($2700/month after basic) though...man IDK!

don't know yet...was also looking at "Air Transportation". I hear its similar to a loadmaster with lots of deployment/TDY opportunities. I'm gonna try to speak to somebody in both fields at my local AFB (Charleston).

You're talking about ranks.

Spc. is a rank in the army, E-4

It's not an officer at all.

I'm a junior in college and plan on joining the Navy upon graduation. I started to join out of HS and took the practice ASVAB and got an 86 and the recruit tried to get me to sign up as a Nuclear Engineer. And I would've done it but I was only 17 when I graduated and couldnt convince moms to sign me off, plus those classes
sick.gif
. I'm currently trying to get into this Baccalaureate Degree Completion program for aviation, I want to be a fighter pilot too. I was told there is a better chance to fly fighter jets in the Navy than in the Air Force. They have some really good programs for students intending to join though

Also I've been told by multiple recruiters, I know they lie haha, that you don't NEED perfect vision to be a pilot, as long as its correctable to 20/20. Anyone know if this is true?

I'm pretty sure that its true but if you need some sort of corrective surgery, I was told there is a six month wait limit after before they even start considering you. If you were to get something like lasik, get it much sooner then later so you aren't stuck with the waiting period when you want to go in.

Also, if that's what you know you want to do, start studying for your Aviation Selection Test Battery now. I'm going into my second attempt on Friday (3 lifetime test policy). If you need any materials, look around the internet (especially Air Warriors forum) or get at me if you need some notes.

Appreciate that homie, I been studying up on it on & off but I got caught up with my schoolwork so I fell off, I was told to study for it because the test was crazy hard. Any notes you can offer would be greatly appreciated, I knew about the Air Warriors forum but lost the bookmark when my comp crashed. How did you do your first try? If you don't mind me asking of course.
