The Official Military Thread. Vol 1

Still can't decide if i want to go enlisted in the Army. I still haven't talked to a recruiter but i don't want to wait the eight months to see if i can even get in the Air Force. Any input from people in the Army? I've heard quality of life is a lot higher in the Air Force compared to Army and in general just get treated better. Jobs in the army i'm looking at are: signals intelligence analyst (35n), information technology specialist (25b), microwave systems operator-maintainer (25p). Still looking at other potential jobs but those caught my eye. Any input would be appreciated.

are you in school? are you working? what's your situation like now? Honestly, if you really wanna go AF, I'd wait for that unless you're in a really bad situation right now. You might regret not waiting later. I've been waiting for the Navy since February so I can def relate to the waiting

No i'm not in school right now. I've got 50 college units but no degree. I'm 22 and unemployed but i just quit my job two days ago, something i had to do for myself. I've got money to last me a few months so i'm not worried about that. By no means am i in a bad situation right now, i'm just really eager to try something new and go out and do something completely new to me.

sorry for the late response, jrdnsrnss

I got good news and bad news,
bad news first- it's backed up by 1-2 months
good news- you should be able to leave before AF sends you out

this is coming from my buddies that are stationed in the US

hope this helps you out, man

Awesome, thanks for your help. Still a tough decision to made. From what i've heard AF sounds better but also easy. I want a challenge which i heard the Army is.

AF has it easier but the Army isn't too bad.  Im in the signal corps(25 series) and honestly I got put into a unit where I never do the job I actually learned. lol.  My mos is getting phased out so maybe thats why.    The 25b's at my unit work with 25u's in an office fixing computers everyday.  They also do other commo type things.  I don't remember too much about the 25P's.  We stayed in the same building as them in AIT. I just know that the majority of them got sent to Korea.  You go to AIT in Georgia and you need secret clearances for all of those.

Thanks for the reply, how do jobs look in the civilian sector if i have experience with a 25 series job. Don't know if your familiar with any of the Air Force mos's but i was aiming at all 3d jobs as in cyber security. Does the Army have a similar mos like cyber security or is that only found in the Air Force? Basically i'm trying to pursue an MOS that can potentially get me a good job once i'm out. Thanks.

It was a long process but man I cant tell you how much Ive changed. My MTI had such a big impact on me he changed my perspective on alot of things. But yea the AF is where its at. Hua!

Just for me, i separated my shoulder before i could get a physical at meps so the medical officer delayed my entry til next year. In general it is long though, from the time you see a recruiter to the time you get shipped out i'd say is a good 5-6 months, could even be longer now. All depends on what job you wanna do and its availability. Talk to a recruiter and see what you wanna do.

Im 20, about to be 21 in December
So I'm in a point in my life where i work and go to a CC and its boring.
Im not really feeling it.
My relationship wit my girl is not great and we might break up.
I ave almost no friends, since they all moved out.
So I was thinking maybe i can join something and make money to send to my fam while also saving.
I also heard you can be a doctor through there medical programs? I really wanted to become a doctor

Any advice from real soldiers here? I know there are plenty and I really appreciate your help.
Whats better to join?
Benefits?
Thanks alot
