No they’re not. They were some of the best players of all time and could be argued as better as the generational guys but they didn’t have that face of the league factor. Charisma and carrying the torch matter. It’s why AI would be as close to making the list as them. He’s got that generational magnetism but not the skills, stats, accolades etc.

You need to separate marketable from generational.

Because in that case, Yao Ming had a whole country behind him and routinely lead in all-star voting.

why? being marketable is part of being generational. It’s not the only part. Yao Ming may be a 10/10 in marketable but like a 6/10 in other categories.

Duncan / Hakeem are close to Shaq but he’s way more marketable. He was the face of the league in a way neither of them ever were.

There is a level of importance that comes with carrying the league for extended periods of time.
