I was cleaning my desktop when I came across this pic. Felt like it deserved to be shared before deleting.

Ohtani has brought so many people back to baseball.

Biggest box office draw for Baseball in years.

He’s saving the game IMO right now.
angel stadium 10 mins away from my office
will be copping many $3 tickets to see him this upcoming season ...when it resumes

Do I see a difference in Ben not showing up vs. (as an example) Harden showing up late, wildly outta shape, half assing and constantly talking in the media every day about wanting to be somewhere else?

Sure.

Do I think it ultimately matters? Not really, no.
If anything else

Anthony Davis: 7 years in NO's
James Harden: 8 years in HOU

Much easier to bang the drum for those guys than someone like Simmons, who got his feelings hurt and decided to be one of the or only player to quit

I don't see the issue with using context

Should have seen when he came to NY.

The whole Tri-State was buzzing. Tickets were insane.

I hadn’t seen that level of passion from casuals since the Yankees were in the series in 09.

It’s like that everywhere he goes too.

I got it

Oh, man. Good ole Osh

Exaggerating for no good reason yet again

Lol at that topic being discussed less than a year ago

its funny how saying some banal obviously true things becomes "exaggerating"
just because everyone is mad at Stephan a smith.

but i guess it's just me being a "contrarian"

You were wrong tho in this case.

I understand athletes are better promoted when they learn the language. European Soccer is an example. You should learn the language to ingratiate yourself with the community.

But Ohtani is not a regular athlete. He’s a phenom. A phenom we haven’t seen in a 100 years.

Him not speaking good English may actually be helping him. There is a certain mystique about him which everyone loves.

You keep saying this bit in relation to this subject as if it’s an objective fact, but it’s not at all.

so you're saying, im right, and it does helps to speak the language
but you believe Ohtani is so great that he's an exception that proves the rule.

that's fine,
you think he's the exception, I think he'd be even more popular if he could speak english
minds can differ.

but you must acknowledge that my original position, was neither an exaggeration
nor contrarian.

if you think he's the exception to the prevailing wisdom,
but i think the basic principle still applies; my position is not "contrarian",
it's banal and conventional.

it only seemed contrarian because people decided to pile on SAS that day.

They piled on SAS because he has a history of being xenophobic.

if i said

"it's easier to promote something when you speak the same language as your target audience"

any day other than the day people decided to be mad at SAS no one would have batted an eye.

my entire life quebec sports media talked about the importance of Montreal Canadian captains speaking french.
everytime a new captain is made that doesn't speak french they make an effort to learn.

Nobody asks why he does this, because it's obvious.

you can disagree with me, but it was not "contrarian."

They piled on SAS because he has a history of being xenophobic.

that's fine, I wasn't defending SAS history.
I was defending the specific point.

the point that I was making agree or disagree was not "contrarian"
I think you should acknowledge that.
