I guess when I say overpay, I'm saying that winning a title as is is unlikely. If they could have gotten back Mills or kept Seth it wouldn't have been an overpay because imo that would be as good as a lineup post Ben Simmons as you could ask for. Sign some free agent big, fine

But not being able to replace that shooter/floor spacer as well as Embiid's backup, people can scoff at them being expendable but if those roles can't be replaced that's a factor

I get that fans are excited for replacing a quitter like Ben with a seemingly happy Harden. That was never in question

For sure, I think we can survive Seth being gone (we will miss him though) having a backup for Embiid is critical. Drummond was the best C backup we’ve ever had. I’m hoping the waiver wire can remedy that. Maybe Robin Lopez if he still has anything in the tank and Goran Dragic will be excellent if he wants to join a contender and have a meaningful role.

Seth was better than Barton

Even if I concede all that (and I think there's an argument that Gordon is all-around better than Tobi), the overall margin in favor of the Sixers supporting cast being better than the Nuggets is small. At least, small enough that I don't think that it should be the deciding factor in the MVP race.
