But they got Paul two days earlier, so maybe they felt they wanted to go big.

But before that it seems like they were open to just drafting the best available at their spot

I don't really get how it matters that Haliburton "said no". It's your choice to draft him. If you take him, is he really gonna sit out and refuse to play on a championship level team with CP/Book/Ayton/Bridges/etc? I highly doubt that. Doesn't seem to be his personality whatsoever.
