I was just going to say......I thought I could afford the Leica T since I still have my 5D that I have yet to sell but I just saw that it was for the body. The god damn 23mm lens is more than the camera! And the electronic viewfinder is almost $600. Nuts.

A few of the portraits from today. If you guys have any tips on how to make them better help a brother out! I like the group shot a lot. For some reason this was boring to me :\

Can anyone school me on buying used DSLR's? Like, what to look out for? Best places to search, etc?
I really want to make the jump to full frame but the prices are much higher than what I paid for my current setup

Were you using a prime or zoom? If zoom, you coulda zoomed in and made the shot a bit tighter. There's too much free space. Also the compression/distortion just look off to me. Gotta shoot 50mm equivalent at the very least. I would say 85mm-105mm equivalent would be best.
As far as portraits go, I don't think a horizontal shot was the best way to go. Photos also look a tad bit under exposed.
All in all, flip to portrait, narrow your lens down a little more, expose a little more. Also, make your subjects feel a bit more comfortable. You can see they look a bit uncomfortable. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents
Edit: Oh, and you could also greatly benefit from off camera lighting if possible!

Hope you don't mind but I did a quick edit.
Just fix the white balance and do touch ups if you can. I did a quick edit in PS. Blurred the background a bit, exposed his face and actually blurred some of his skin. I am not sure if people would agree but I wouldn't totally sharpen the photos. I think a soft look might look better. This guy in particular had spots on his skin and what not. I think I did mess up on his skin color. I think his cheeks sort of have red highlights.
Good job though. I would find this a frustrating shoot.....but a challenge.

Good first try. I would invest in some speedlights tho. Grab some Yonguos for cheap and play around with them. One would have been great for the solo shots and two for the group shot. I think that you wouldnt even surpass $250 on 2 speedlights, triggers, 2 stands and 2 umbrellas. I know you like to shoot cars too and that could get you into light painting them. Good investment overall.

Also, definitely shoot portraits in the vertical orientation. It is more appealing even if it is a pain to do so. I recently started getting comfortable shooting that way myself.

I was using a zoom lens for the individual shots (24-105) and 28mm for the group. I was actually just going for headshots, sorry if I posted portraits in my other posts, that's my bad. I increased the exposure on them in LR but I guess it wasn't enough. Seeing the post from Fong and my post I see the difference now and will increase the exposure a bit more. I was also using my buddies 580exii and it was my very first time using it so I may not have used it properly. I had it in ETTL mode the entire time so I guess it was compensating the light automatically since I didn't have much time to mess around with it before today. I will be investing in one soon though.
@Fongstarr Thank you for posting that edit actually! I'm not good at using PS so I do the majority of my editing in LR but I need to start using PS more often. Will probably need a youtube tutorial on how to blur the background if you come across one.

I'm definitely looking into getting one or two speedlites soon. I've been wanting to do some light painting so a speedlite would really help.

Using ttl more than likely caused your underexposure because you shot at a white what. Def get yourself a cheap speedlight and umbrella setup to play around with. I'm not good at lighting yet but it's not hard at all to understand how to use manual flash.

what's yall opinion on taking Cams on Vacay?... I'm headed to DR soon and i'm contemplating on whether i'ma bring my cam. I just don't wanna leave my equipment in the room and something goes missing. My says that theirs a tendency for things to go missing.

When I took a trip back to GA i brought my cam and it wasn't too bad but I sure wish I had something lighter to walk around with. which will soon cause me to get a very nice point and shoot or another 4/3s cam. but i was also staying with family, if you leave it in the hotel you prob wanna leave it in a bigger bag and leave it in the closet but idk

When I brought my stuff to Hawaii, I would even leave my camera stuff on the beach while I was in the water. Not the smartest thing but I would hide it all in like beach towels. I think as long as you have a solid bag, you should be cool. Be cautious of your surroundings and just be street smart. If it bugs you that much, bring a reserve camera like a point and shoot or what not. Or even get a Go Pro since you can pretty much take that anywhere since it is so small and weather sealed.

I just got back from DR and I took my 7d and two lenses. When I wasn't using it, I'd just throw it in the room safe along with our passports. On the beach, we just used our phones and my gopro

Ended up grabbing a Lowepro Transit 350 Backpack
and just grabbed a 1.8 50mm. I was contemplating buying a 1.4 50mm but in terms of cost, it didn't make sense for me as Im a college student trying to budget ball.
Instead of spending a min $300+ dollars for a 1.4 or a better lens, I just went the route of best bang for your buck and accumulate a decent set up. Bought a few rechargeable batteries. that backpack. a 1.8. a remote shutter release. And Ill probably start putting money aside for Lightroom/PS after this 30 day trial is over.
All i think I need is a tripod now and the one Nawz posted will probably be the one i purchase. After that. I think Ill be set for a little while tip i start becoming more educated in what I need and want.
If any one wants a Canon Deluxe EOS 300DG bag for like 28 bucks shipped. Let me know.

Where did you take those first 3 shots at? I recognize sutro baths but have never seen those other spots, unless they're not in SF.

Im a BIG fan of 13th. Probably one of my favs on IG. I can look at his pics all day. His style is appealing to me and similar in taste.
Id even say hes an inspiration of mine when it comes to photography.
