The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Completely new to photography and looking to pick it up as a hobby. The pictures i've seen here are really amazing, but all the model numbers and lens options and what not have me confused  If I were looking mostly to photograph models for streetwear, sneakers etc. what would you guys recommend to start with? Also what editing programs would serve best for that purpose?

That should be on the first page. Repped for giving him that info. I know you've done it before too.

Somebody make this happen. Probably the most common question asked in this thread.

Methodical Management Methodical Management

When we move platforms in the summer i was actually considering starting a new "official photography" thread with tons of new updated links and info in the first page.

This one is from 2009 and I love it, but IMO the platform switch is a good time make a new thread.

I know you guys have heard this a million times by now. But I'm completely new to photography as well. I just purchased a Sony a6000. I love the ease of use so far, and the size.

But I just wanted to shout everyone out in here for being supportive to the newbies. There's tons of info in here. It's definitely a bit overwhelming.
I agree, it can be overwhelming. Just take your time and keep shooting. You'll be fine. The community here is really cool and are very helpful.

Naw......leave the thread as is. Unfortunately we've seen people come and go all the time so no point in making the front page editable for one person. Rap Sizzle tried and dude went MIA after. If people have questions, just ask away. It's not that hard to get answers here. Plus we're almost hitting a 1000 pages and the selfish person thinks it'd be dumb to start that all over.

The new site should be nice for displaying images too - just a better interface for that sort of thing so it would seem a good time to start a new thread and archive this one.

since when were adobe products subscription based?

Couple of years now I think. If you don't want to pay you can get CS2 for free - for some reason Adobe released it with a legit serial number a few years ago.

The new one is nice though - and the photographer's pack with LR is worth the $10 a month IMO.

Question for your workflows (if using Photoshop at all)... any of you using LUTS? Just started using them, and I'm finding their simplification of the editing process brilliant (not that LR's interface isn't efficient).

So any tripod suggestions?

Idk about starting a new thread, this one has some great info already, if method man could just edit the first page to include some beginner info that would be dope.

You shot this?

For tripods check out mefoto roadtrip and manfrotto. Manfrotto has a wide range of tripods so what ever fits your needs. I have the mefoto roadtrip and I have no problems with it so far for what I use it for.

I can edit the first page of someone wants to give me the content.

Meth's pretty busy...

If it comes down to it, I can hand over control of the topic post to a different user to ensure that it remains helpful and well updated.

Under normal circumstances, we require approval from the topic starter before taking that step, but, in this case, the user never claimed their account after the move to Huddler - and there will have to be some consideration before our relaunch about what to do with all those unclaimed accounts.

Changing control of the topic doesn't preclude anyone from starting a new thread.  In fact, we may want to consider setting an expiration for "mega threads" to at least require a new one each year to keep things current and manageable.  "Mega threads" can also create some performance issues as well, depending on how the system handles them.  (Huddler doesn't handle them terribly well, for example.)

There's some value to having years' worth of history at your fingertips, but let's be honest: most people are not going to read through 1,000+ pages, let alone need to go back to page 500 and quote something.  Keeping old threads locked and archived in "read only" mode doesn't really diminish their value as a resource.

In the meantime, if there's a consensus opinion on who should be assigned to the topic post for this thread, we can easily make that change.

Meth thank you so much for stopping by and shedding some light on this for us. :smokin

Meth has a point with who's going to search this thread for one specific piece of information....I wouldn't even do that lol. We should probably just add beginner cameras to the front page when the new thread starts along with the info that's already on there I guess.

Thoughts on the Sony 90/2.8 Macro lens for food photography? Already own the Sony 28/2 and Sony Zeiss 55/1.8 for my A7.

supposedly the 90mm macro is a really good lens but you just might want to look into some extension tubes to turn your current lenses to macro capable?
