PS4 Exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn's Strategy Guide Is a Giant Tome

View media item 2300230
Horizon: Zero Dawn is an open world role-playing release according to Guerrilla Games, but many have questioned whether it will really live up to that description. The title's official strategy guide certainly seems to indicate as much: it's a whopping 552 pages, which is almost on par with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's guide.

Now this doesn't necessarily mean much; we don't know how the pages are being utilised, after all. But it does suggest that you can expect a dense adventure; the guide to Mass Effect Andromeda – albeit by a different publisher – is only 464 pages, and few have concerns about the size and scale of that game.

We just hope that the quests are worthwhile. The Witcher III: Wild Hunt is really the standard bearer in that regard, as practically every mission in Geralt's outing is brilliantly written and expertly designed. There are definitely still question marks hanging over the title, but if it can deliver… Boy, we could have a huge hit on our hands.

I'm still debating. PS4 xbox1
Do you play a lot of third-party games that have online multiplayer (e.g. COD, Battlefield, Titanfall 2)? If so, go with the system that you are able to play with most of your friends. Also look at the first party exclusives that Sony and Microsoft currently have and also future console exclusive games.

PS4 Pro is an improvement from the OG PS4 console. PS4 has beefier internal components which makes it capable for 4K HDR gaming and playing 4K HDR streamable video.

Xbox 1s is an improvement from the OG Xbox 1 console. Same as the PS4, it has beefier components making it capable for upscaled 4K gaming, playing 4K HDR streamable video, and playing 4K UHD BluRay discs.

If you have a 4K HDR TV:
  • Both systems are capable of streaming 4K HDR videos from apps like Youtube and Netflix.
  • The PS4 Pro is able to play configured games in 4K / HDR display.
  • Xbox 1s has the ability for HDR gaming as well as upscaling graphics to 4K.
  • Xbox 1s has a 4K HD Bluray player that you can play Ultra HD bluray discs
If you have a regular HD TV:
  • Certain PS4 games running on the PS4 Pro have options for HDR, improved framerate, improved graphics, etc.
  • Games played on Xbox 1s will usually run better than played on a OG Xbox 1 console.
Prices:

PS4 Slim (500GB) = $299

PS4 Pro (1TB) = $399

Xbox 1s (500GB) = $299. There are 1TB and 2TB bundles for $349 and $449 respectively.

Look around Best Buy, Amazon, and other retailers because currently the consoles are going for cheaper than the MSRP that I listed above.

GameStop Reports “Disappointing” Holiday Period, Says Infinite Warfare Suffered From Weak Sales
call-of-duty-infinite-warfare.jpg

In a press release, US retailer GameStop has reported “disappointing” holiday sales in the video game segment, which it says is down to “industry weakness, promotional pricing pressure and lower in-store traffic.”

Total global sales during the period amounted to $2.50 billion, which is a 16.4 percent decline compared to 2015’s holiday period. Total comparable store sales decreased by 18.7 percent. Interestingly, GameStop notes that Titanfall 2‘s and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare‘s “weak” sales “significantly” impacted the month of November alongside console promotions on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

CEO Paul Raines said in a statement:

We are disappointed with our overall results, but looking broadly, we did see continued growth in our non-physical gaming businesses and we expect this category to approach 40% of our earnings in fiscal 2016. As we look forward to 2017, we remain focused on our transformation plan, which includes growing our non-gaming businesses, right-sizing our global store portfolio by continuously evaluating non-productive stores for closure, and maintaining strong financial discipline, including reducing SG&A by $100 million by 2019.

While Infinite Warfare remains one of the top selling games of last year, it has suffered from an overall decline compared to its predecessor, Black Ops III, partly owing to competition from Battlefield 1 (a sales success) and Titanfall 2 among other factors.

Worth noting that a number of high profile releases including Watch Dogs 2 and Dishonored 2 also suffered from poor sales during the holiday 2016 period.

Kratos’ Son is Named Atreus in Upcoming God of War
god-of-war-rage.png

In case you missed it, Sony Santa Monica recently offered players a free download of Bear McCreary’s Overture, performed live at E3 2016, as a thank you after God of War‘s reveal trailer crossed 15 million views on PlayStation’s YouTube channel. One hawk-eyed Twitter user, Fabiano Banin, noticed a comment in the MP3 file that read, “An introduction to Kratos and Atreus,” and asked director Cory Barlog if that was the name of Kratos’ son. Barlog confirmed that it was and commended Banin on his discovery.
The fact that this is trending on FB with 20k responses is funny :{

Injustice 2 Pre-Order Bonuses Reportedly Include Darkseid, Upcoming Reveals Teased
injustice-2-preorder.jpg

The image above is making rounds online, revealing that Darkseid will be included in Injustice 2‘s pre-order bonuses (as a playable character) alongside the game’s theme.

While it’s clear that the image is taken from the PlayStation Store (via NeoGAF), it seems that it has since been removed so I’ll publishing this as a report until there’s an official confirmation. That said, quite a few users have reported seeing the listing before it disappeared.

We’ll update our readers as soon as we have more information.

In related news, both NetherRealm Studios and DC Comics are teasing some kind of a reveal for next Tuesday, January 17. The following teasers were posted on the Injustice 2 and DC Twitter accounts:

Destiny’s Iron Banner Returns Next Week, Features Clash
Destiny-rise-of-iron-review-4.png

Destiny is getting two significant updates starting next week, one of which will see the return of the game’s most beloved events and another that will fix some issues that have cropped up ever since The Dawning launched on December 13. January 17 will see the release of both of these updates, with the returning event being the Iron Banner. This time around players can play Clash from January 17 through January 24 to earn loot. Level advantages are enabled for this mode.

As far as the Hotfix goes, Bungie is looking to release version 2.5.0.1 of the game at 9:30 AM Pacific Time on January 17. Here’s what it’ll fix (and what issues are still being worked on) courtesy of Bungie:

Destiny Hotfix 2.5.0.1

Some Patrol missions in the Plaguelands are not reliably causing enemies to drop their respective objective items
Xûr’s “Curio” inventory varies on a weekly basis, due to a limitation of his inventory space
Weapon Stability on the Nova Mortis and Abbadon Exotic Machine Guns is inconsistent

Destiny Update 2.5.0 Known Issues

Rounds may not end as expected when all players on a Fireteam have been defeated in Elimination Game Types
Skeleton Keys may be removed erroneously from Character Inventory
Acquiring the Ice Breaker from weekly Vanguard Elite Bounty does not unlock the corresponding Grimoire card
Players who have completed the “Songs from the Void” Quest will see a waypoint above Ikora in the Tower, where players will need to speak instead with Commander Zavala to receive the following Quest

As mentioned, the known issues are not yet solved will be addressed in a future update. Bungie also notes that full patch notes will also be made available once the fix goes live on January 17.

Let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to jumping back into the Iron Banner next week!
Just what I need to get back on Destiny :hat

Next Free Titanfall 2 DLC Drop Includes New 6v6 Mode, New Maps
Titanfall-2.jpg

Respawn has announced that the next free Titanfall 2 DLC drop is “coming soon,” and will include a new mode called Live Fire, new maps, a significant update to the playlist interface, and more.

A 6v6 Pilot-only mode that focuses on competitive, close quarter combat, Live Fire will include two new dedicated maps, Stacks and Meadow. Respawn adds:

A round-based best of 5 mode with no respawns, you will have one minute to eliminate the opposing team in order to win the round. You can also win the round if your team is holding the neutral flag when the round timer ends. It’s fast, frantic, and sure to help hone those teamwork and mobility skills. We’re also introducing two brand new maps designed specifically for Live Fire: Stacks and Meadow. Playable only in the Live Fire playlist, these two maps are tight, enclosed death boxes designed specifically for the fast-paced, intense nature of the mode.

The upcoming content drop will also include a new Coliseum map called Columns, another Pilot execution, multiple new Commander intros for each Faction, and a significant update to the playlist interface. Acknowledging that “having game modes split between two screens is not an ideal user experience,” Respawn says:

Our goal is to allow players to create their own ‘mixtapes’ and choose which modes they want to be matched in. Would you like to match in just Attrition, Amped Hardpoint, and Last Titan Standing? Simply select the modes you want and hit play. We’ll talk more about this and more in the coming weeks.

Later this year, Respawn plans to release more maps (including more remasters of maps from Titanfall), weapons, modes, and more. Expect a roadmap for the next couple of months to arrive soon.

If you missed it, Titanfall 2 was our Best Shooter of 2016.
It sucks that EA sent this game to cemetery and a lot of people are missing out on arguably the best shooter of 2016.

yep EA really goofed releasing this game in between two huge releases. they really didnt want this game to succeed. i keep saying they should've launched it in the spring of 2017. no huge shooters that can really rival it imo

i also feel like a lot of games get screwed over by releasing in the holiday season. like dishonored 2 shouldn't have released during the holidays. it should've been earlier. its a great game so far from what I've played but i knew it was gonna get slept on just like the first one

December 2016 NPD: Xbox One Had Its Best Month Ever, PS4 Outsold It
ps4proproduction.jpg

For the second month in a row, PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One in the United States, The NPD Group’s latest report shows. Additionally, PS4 was the #1 selling home console in the US in December 2016.

While Sony declined to comment on the sales of PS4 (they only confirmed the NPD data to GamesBeat), Microsoft did issue a statement. In it, they say December 2016 was the best month ever for Xbox One sales, PS4 sales were down year-over-year, and Xbox One sold more units than PS4 in the second half of 2016:

December was the biggest month ever for Xbox One sales in the U.S., and Xbox One was the only [current-generation] console with year-over-year growth, according to NPD. In addition, Xbox One was the top-selling console over the second half of 2016, following the announcement of Xbox One S at E3.

Recently, Sony revealed that PS4 is the world’s best-selling console over the last three years, and lifetime sales are over 53 million.

The NPD’s full report for December should be revealed next week. One piece of information GamesBeat revealed early is that Final Fantasy XV sold far better on PS4 than Xbox One.
...Microsoft, spin, spin, spin :rolleyes
